Normally when I'm looking something up on Discogs and the best listing says "Not available in Canada" I get a tiny bit sad. But in the case of this Moor Mother 7" I recognized the seller's name and hit @Djxfactor511 up here and he didn't hesitate to send it up this way! He even threw in Join the Ritual as a bonus.

Thanks again!
Glad they made it in one piece!!

Got to a few spots in Spokane before heading to the Convention Center for my Daughter's volleyball tourney. It amazes me the prices at some of these shops. There's a vintage resale store that captures some new and used vinyl, records are all about $10 overpriced from another shop just up the street. Noticed every sore but one was just too much. Another had Damien Jurado and Gathered in Sound for $120, I just saw that last week for $50 in Portland. All garbage old records besides a few overpriced newer titles there. Not sure what's going on at a few of these.

Picked these two up for reasonable prices at Resurrection Records. Really dug that spot. Great selection, organization, vibe, and his dog was just chilling in there too. Will definitely go back there when we're inevitably back here next year. Also liked 4000 Holes. Good selection, prices and staff there too. Tried to hit Total Trash, but for some reason not open even though the sign with the hours said they should be. That place wasn't bad last time I was here.

Nice that there were enough options to allow for a couple of good ones amidst the overpriced wastes of space. I’ve grown increasingly fond of Daniel Romano’s gang after falling hard for Julianna Riolino’s debut. Hope your daughter had a good tournament!

Stopped by a record show over by the Space Needle today…

Original K Records pressing of Beck’s One Foot In The Grave. Original ‘97 Pressing of Guided By Voices Under The Bushes Under The Stars, Original Promo copy of Jonathan Richman’s Jonathan Sings!, and a $5 beater copy of Bob Weir’s Bobby & The Midnites.

Yeah, I'm liking a lot of the Ramano work. This is the first one I've picked up. All The Reaching Trims is a fantastic psych/pop song.

Walter Bishop, Jr.'s 4th Cycle - Keeper Of My Soul (Black Jazz Records, 1973 First Promo Pressing)

Well, this was an interesting find. I popped into a record shop earlier today and saw this on the wall as I entered. I have never seen an original pressing of ANY Black Jazz Records, yet alone a promo pressing, and it happened to be one of my favourites (behind Cleveland Eaton).

Wilson Pickett - Hey Jude (Atlantic, 2023 Vinyl Me Please Classics Pressing)
Isaiah Collier & The Chosen Few - Cosmic Transitions (Division 81 Records, 2023 Vinyl Me Please Exclusive Pressing)

My VMP box finally came through. The Isaiah Collier is an album that I missed the first time around and then prices skyrocketed, so I was over the moon that its been reissued!

Jazz-Hip Trio - Jazz In Relief (Major Minor, 1967 First Stereo Pressing)
Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Everybody Loves The Sunshine (Polydor, 1976 First Signed Pressing)
Miles Davis - Charles Mingus Presents (Debut/Swing, 1957 French Pressing)
The Jack Wilson Quartet Featuring Roy Ayers - S/T (Atlantic/London Records, 1964 First Sample Pressing)

A mixed back from the past couple of weeks. The Roy Ayers has the amazing added bonus of being signed by the man himself. The Miles Davis caught my eye in Reckless Records in Soho, and priced amazingly, I thought they had put the wrong label on it!

Peter King, Dick Morrissey, Martin Taylor & The Tony Lee Trio - Live at the Bull (Bull's Head Music, 1988 First Signed Pressing)
Davy Graham - Large As Life And Twice As Natural (Decca, 1968 First Stereo Pressing)
Peter Ind - Looking Out (Wave/Esquire, 1962 First UK Pressing)
Don Rendell Quartet - The Great Don Rendell (Tempo, 1955 First 7" Sample Pressing)
Harry Klein Quartet - Liggin' (Pye Nixa, 1956 First 7" Pressing)
Tony Kinsey Trio With Joe Harriott - Chirracahaua / Teddi (Esquire, 1955 First 7" Pressing)

A pile of British jazz that has taken its time to get to me, one of the perils of buying online. I actually sold a decent chunk recently so was able to make space....to fill.

Eartha Kitt - That Bad Eartha (RCA Victor, 1956 First Canadian Pressing)
Harvey Leonard - Jazz Ecstacy (Keynote, 1955 First Pressing)
John Coltrane - The Great Coltrane (Savoy-Musidisc, 1965 French Pressing)
John Coltrane - S/T (Savoy-Musidisc, 1965 French Pressing)
Ma Rainey - First Of The Great Blues Singers Volume 1 (Riverside Records/London Records, 1954 Sample Test Pressing)

Heres a bunch of Cheap Heat. I found the Eartha Kitt for £1 in a charity shop I popped into on a walk yesterday. I'm not familiar with her music and thought it was worth checking out for that price. The 2 Coltrane's cost less than a cup of coffee and might well be live sessions, im not too sure yet but have them set up ready to play. Finally, I have been meaning to listen to Ma Rainey ever since I watched "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" a few years ago, and this 2LP white label test/sample pressing was too intriguing to pass up on!

Neil Ardley: Kaleidoscopes and Rainbows by Vivien Ardley, John Coles & Dave Gelly (Jazz In Britain, 2023)

Finally, an absolute behemoth of a book highlighting the music and life of one of British jazz's finest composers. It also came with 2CD's, now I just need a way to play them...

Man, every one of your fresh-grab posts makes me want to come to your house!

The wife was much less enthused to get home from our trip to a huge stack of record deliveries.

Sumerian Records sent me a gift card after a long shipping delay that I took a gamble with. A couple deals long on my want list. And a too expensive record that I couldn't pass on.

Between the Buried and Me - Automata
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
Noah and the Whale - Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down
Infected Mushroom - IM25

Turntable Lab sale.
The Dillinger Escape Plan w/ Mike Patton
Zola Jesus - Arkhon
House of Pain
Gezan - Klue

Bob Marley Jamaican presses from Target.

Nirvana Unplugged (2 LP repress)
David Gray - White Ladder (on white wax)
Ghost - Ceremony and Devotion (last of theirs I needed)
Star Trek - Lower Decks

🎶
One of these things just doesn't belong here
🎵

SWANS - Public Castration is a Good Idea - Signed by Michael Gira, There for completionism of course, but I suspect it'll still get played since I appreciate occasionally having an album during which I can't possibly think about anything.
Chic -C'est Chic - I've been listening to disco lately, not terribly sure why.
MGMT - Little Dark Age - Been meaning to get a copy for a while, finally found an excuse. Sounds great.
Justice - - Honestly an impulse purchase, I was surprised to see it in the shop and it was a reasonable price. Kinda thinking it may not stay in the collection long, it's not an album I've really clicked with in the couple of times I've listened to it before now, but it gets a C-H-A-N-C-E.

Went out record shopping five times this month (most that I can recount in a single month) along with four visits to MP.

March Acquisitions

Current Year Releases

Kate NV - WOW
Khotin - Release Spirit

20230330_033242.jpg

Picked up both of these at MP. Very convenient as I have these in my top50 for the year at this time. $21 and $20 new, respectively. I'm really falling for Kate NV in particular, and excited to dabble in her earlier records as well...another art pop/avant-pop heroine to familiarize myself with!

Ambient/MFM

Bengalfuel - Auriemma
Drafted By Minotaurs - Aversion Therapy
Satoshi & Makoto - CZ-5000 Sounds & Sequences
Kuniyuki Takahashi – Early Tape Works (1986 - 1993) Vol. 2

20230330_033532.jpg

Thanks to @TheThinWhiteDuke's post on the Drafted By Minotaurs bandcamp sale, I took a leap on this heavily discounted $5 LP, as I liked the tracks I sampled. Unfortunately, the first copy that arrived had a large split on the top seam in addition to a gatefold split. After contacting customer service about the issue, they replied very quickly and sent out a replacement with record + inner sleeve outside of the gatefold, along with another record from the label free of charge; no hassle. Highly recommend Infraction Records if you are interested in nighttime ambient music.
Both the Satoshi & Makoto and Kuniyuki Takahashi records acquired from MP. I was recommended the Satoshi & Makoto record a few years ago from them, but never got around to it until it eventually dried up on all avenues until a recent repress was made available...nailed it down for a very reasonable $22. Kuniyuki Takahashi, on the other hand, compliments the first volume from MFM acquired last month.

Avant Garde

David Cunningham - Grey Scale
Manuel Göttsching – Inventions For Electric Guitar

20230330_033808.jpg

Tried the Cunningham record out on a whim since Superior Viaduct reissued it (and having positive experiences with their avantgarde reissue campaigns). Very good, very satisfied with the mastering. Fairly less accessible compared to other minimal records of its times.
It may not be as widely praised as E2-E4, but I think Göttsching's Inventions For Electric Guitar is just as good.

Miscellaneous

Aunt Sally - Aunt Sally
Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
Tortoise - Standards
V/A - Pacific Breeze 3: Japanese City Pop, AOR And Boogie 1975-1987
20230330_034035.jpg

Aunt Sally is...something eclectic. I'll say that much. I want more (though none exists that I know of).
Found this red 2xLP reissue sealed at Mississippi Records for $19. Much better than the previous original vinyl edition with bonus tracks.
Picked up the last Tortoise album that I find enjoyable at the show from Tuesday.
Winced, but ponied up for the latest Pacific Breeze compilation of city pop. With me going to Japan in just over two weeks, I'm eager to find full length city pop albums for reasonable prices...I really want to make a DJ set sometime with them!
