Fresh Grabs

I’ve only listened to it once so far and I’m not sure I like it as much as his first but maybe it’s a grower!
I got to see him perform a lot of it live a few months ago. And listened to it on streaming a few times before getting the vinyl. I think the vinyl cut sounds really fantastic.

Also he has a radio show on Apple Music now that’s really cool. He did a Stevie Wonder cover on it:

October Acquisitions

Azealia Banks - 1991 (EP)
John Coltrane - Blue Train
Demilich - Nespithe
Peter Gabriel - So
Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter - SAVED!
Haley Heyndrickx - I Need to Start a Garden

Saw the Azealia Banks EP was restocked recently. Some people were getting it in their Crateism boxes, which had me hopeful that one would turn up in mine but we all knew how that ended up. Sounds great, but should have been cut at 45RPM.
Cheap mono edition of the BNTP for Blue Train; was discounted at Target.
Bought a record for the first time at Blackwater Records, a shop in Portland that specializes in hardcore punk, metal, and grindcore. Happened to stumble across a sealed color vinyl edition of Demilich's lone forward-thinking death metal classic in the New Arrivals bin for a shockingly low $21. It doesn't sound great on wax though.
Went back to MP yesterday for the first time in about six weeks and found the OG Gabriel. I had been looking for a copy for a few years now.
Impulse bought Kristin's new record after one stream at work, but somewhat having second thoughts after listening to the record more intently. Hoping it'll grow.
Haley Heyndrickx preorder finally showed.

Honestly Same - Hot Plate Only
Maria BC - Hyaline
Omni Gardens - Golden Pear
Masahiro Takahashi - Humid Sun
billy woods - Aethiopes
billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps

Both the Honestly Same and Omni Gardens LPs are current year releases from Moon Glyph, a (Portland) label I might have as a top10 for my tastes. Comfy, soothing ambient relaxation. I loved Omni Gardens' Moss King from 2020 a lot.
Found a used copy of Maria BC's debut for $10 yesterday. Will be seeing them later this month on a cheapie ticket. I remember finding Maria's opening set interesting when they opened for Stella Donnelly last August. Really enjoyed Maria BC's album from this year which will certainly be one of my top50 when MEGALIST time rolls around. Recommended for Grouper fans.
Picked up the Masahiro Takahashi record after the Passenger Seat Records owner convinced me on it. Enjoyable enough ambient; more of a grower. Not sure I'll keep this one long term.
Billy Woods be putting these at the usual underground hip hop vinyl price point. Got Aethiopes at the merch table earlier in October when I saw Armand Hammer, after he mentioned they found a box of LPs that were tucked away in the warehouse. Maps from Amazon, as it seems that they pressed a huge amount and are available at many vendors. I'll bring these next time he swings through Portland to have Woods ink them. I'll have to obtain We Buy Diabetic Test Strips at some point...

New grab. A cd because this isn’t on vinyl, it’s a very small label.

This is a collection of unaccompanied Sean-nos songs by a variety of artists recorded in the field or in small local studios.

Put together by a very small label that is essentially ran by a fella from his kitchen. This has had rave reviews so I jumped in blind.

I've been on a fabulous 10-day rail odyssey from Venice to Warsaw (much to be recommended - especially the amazing Slovenian countryside). I always knew the cultural highpoint would be digging for Polish jazz in Kraków and Warsaw this week. Here's my haul (including a couple from Budapest, and one - Element of Crime - from Vienna). Particularly excited about some of the OG Tomasz Stanko scores, including one - Fish Face - that I'd not heard of even. Zbigniew Namysłowski too. And Sneaky Jesus and Piotr Damasiewicz to keep up with some modern stuff too. So much heat here. My girlfriend always calls any noisy racket "Polish jazz" but there's a lot of cool stuff to check out here for those who are curious.

Sounded like you were on a big coke-bender for a second there!

I've got sneaky jesus landing chez moi soon. Hopefully this week, but likely next. I'll have to check into some of these other goodies for sure!

Incredible! That must have been a lot of fun. What a rush!

The remainder of my October grabs. The first batch were all used records from Vertigo in Grand Rapids, including a couple of cheap ECMs:

The Wipers was also used; it’s a recent-ish reissue in very good shape. The other three were new. That latest PJ Harvey sounds better with each listen!
