Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/25 - Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: Santa (who comes off as a bit of a jerk in this special to be honest) and Christmas were saved by Rudolph. Play something you received as a present.

Santa brought the latest Neil Young ORS set. Little too early for Arc but I'll get the house waking up with this one.

12/26 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Bumbles Bounce! Christmas is over, you get to sneak in one more holiday record before you’re told to bounce. Spin it loud!

One more play before it gets sent back to the island of misfit spins.

Low - Christmas

I'm still catching up, but I'm going out of order to get today's prompt in before Christmas is too far away!

12/20 - A Christmas Carol: The 1951 version of a Christmas Carol is widely considered the best adaptation. As this is the third version of this to show up on this list, play a Ghost of Christmas Future by someone you are looking forward to a future release from.

Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump

Blu Wav is coming in February.

12/18 - Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas / South Park Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo: “Well Brian, if you want poop for Christmas, Santa Butthead would be happy to come by and take a dump under your tree”. Play one of the albums that is worth the least in your collection. Howdy ho, and lets see those gems!

Charley Pride – I'm Just Me
20231226_144447.jpg

Ranging between $1 and $2.01 according to the 'cogs, this one was a free store score for me, so I'm still coming out ahead! 🤣
It's a shame for many reasons that Charley has pretty much been relegated exclusively to bargain bins and thrift stores, but at least it has worked in my favour - I've spent $1 total and have 3 of his albums.

12/23 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Hermey the Elf feels like a misfit because he wants to be a dentist. Everyone started off with a job they didn’t like. Spin something by an artist who initially paid the bills with another job outside of music, and let us know what that is.

Withers worked as a mechanical assembler for several different companies, including Douglas Aircraft Corporation, IBM and Ford,[13] while recording demo tapes with his own money, shopping them around, and performing in clubs at night. When he hit with the song "Ain't No Sunshine" in 1971, he refused to resign from his job because he believed the music business was a fickle industry

Wait, there's a new Grandaddy coming?

12/24 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Yukon Cornelius is as famous for his lust for silver and gold as he is for his amazing moustache. Play something by someone who has / had fantastic facial hair.

Maybe not quite 'fantastic' but I'll always remember when my sister got this album, my ten year old self was SO intrigued by look of these guys. Lennon's beard and hat being a big part of it. And then the music hit me too. In fact, pretty sure Rain was my first favorite Beatles song.

Working my way through the secret santa package from @swamp
Some really cool titles from the Lauren Records roster.
Thanks again Swamp, such a great package. I really liked Guppy at first listen, can't wait to get through all of these a couple times each.
And I'm loving this one as I type this post...TV Dreams playing now.

12/21 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Sam the Snowman was famously voiced by Burl Ives, who was jailed in the early 1930’s for singing “Foggy Dew”, which the authorities considered “bawdy”. Play something bawdy in solidarity with Burl.

The Cure - Pornography

Don't think this album title would have flown in the 30s either.

James Brandon Lewis | Red Lily Quintet – For Mahalia, With Love

With or without Red Lily Quintet, I'm llooking very forward to whatever James Brandon Lewis has got coming our way next, as he only seems to be getting better and better along the way!

12/27 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: The Island of Misfit Toys is where the Charlie In The Box greets Rudolph and Hermie, and introduces them to the misfit toys. Play something that’s in a misfit genre when compared to the rest of your collection.

Since I like various synthwave releases, I've tried to listen to some popular vaporwave stuff, but just don't seem to like it. 2 of the 3 vaporwave releases I own were given to me. And while I like them, I guess I don't like them enough to pursue more in the style/genre.
