Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/16 – It’s A Wonderful Life: This holiday favorite has an angel sent from heaven to show George Bailey how much he’s meant to others. Play something with bells or chimes, to help an angel get its wings.

Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life

I'm not entirely sure which of the twinkling sounds on this album are bells, what's electronic, and what's from other instruments, but the result is definitely angelic. (Also, I still kind of wish I'd spent way too much for that VMP box set a while back, but luckily my CDs still have my back!)

12/23 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Hermey the Elf feels like a misfit because he wants to be a dentist. Everyone started off with a job they didn’t like. Spin something by an artist who initially paid the bills with another job outside of music, and let us know what that is.

Charlie was a graphic designer!
Man, I love his drumming on Get Off of My Cloud.

Lee Bains Not only put out this brilliant record last year but also worked and reportedly still wirks as a construction worker and handyman.

The White Stripes "Elephant" (2003 Third Man; 2023 reissue)
Jack White owned a store apparently called Third Man Upholstery and was pretty good at it.

12/17 - A Charlie Brown Christmas: A good percentage of us own this release which seems to have reached Black Pumas levels of variants. Suspending the usual “play something unique” rule, play it if you have it and lets see what versions are out there. If you don’t have it, play a holiday favorite.

Eddie Vedder worked at a gas station in San Diego prior to making it big. It's always great to be here for the hometown shows. One of my favorite moments was when he had his gas station manager at a show in 2009, and told a story about working there interspersed into "So You Want to Be A Rock n Roll Star". Worth the click through to watch.

Prior to joining Black Flag as the groups 4th and most prominent lead singer Henry Rollins was slinging ice cream in the DC suburbs at Häagen-Dazs as an assistant manager…

Elvis Costello took a job as a computer operator in the mid 70's, mounting tape reels and punch cards. He used the wait time between computer tasks to write songs. He continued to work full-time as a computer operator until a few weeks before his first album was released in 1977.

12/20 - A Christmas Carol: The 1951 version of a Christmas Carol is widely considered the best adaptation. As this is the third version of this to show up on this list, play a Ghost of Christmas Future by someone you are looking forward to a future release from

I just learned Greg Cartwright has a new project, and they dropped one song, with the album coming in January. (No vinyl pre-order unfortunately.) But I'm excited anyway, this song I linked below is quite a departure from what I usually hear from his projects.

12/18 - Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas / South Park Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo: “Well Brian, if you want poop for Christmas, Santa Butthead would be happy to come by and take a dump under your tree”. Play one of the albums that is worth the least in your collection. Howdy ho, and lets see those gems!

Lush - Split

I recently got this one, but it had some pops during one track, so I asked for a replacement- they didn't have any more, so they refunded me, making this one a whopping $0.00 in value.

12/24 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Yukon Cornelius is as famous for his lust for silver and gold as he is for his amazing moustache. Play something by someone who has / had fantastic facial hair.

Mick in 1979, I wonder if he was sporting this beard during the recording sessions of this album.

Frank's moustache / soul patch combo is pretty iconic - it's even the logo of the Zappa Family Trust
