Day 04: The Santa Clause

Guide By Voices - Mag Earwhig!

Prior to the recording of this album, GBV’s leader and chief creative force, Bob Pollard axed the entire band, replacing them with Cleveland garage rockers, Cobra Verde. The results were this album and an extended partnership with Cobra Verde lead guitarist, Doug Gillard.

Day 05: Krampus
Play something you think would scare a child.

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Petrodragonic Apocalypse; Or, Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation

The prospects of having to live through hellscape brought about by human caused pollution and climate change is pretty fucking scary.

12/5 - Krampus: Krampusnacht is celebrated on December 5th, and both the myth and the movie revolve around a demon who punishes naughty children. Play something you think would scare a child.

Maybe not the music, but the cover. I could have used this for Day 4 as well.

12/6 - Christmas at Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: This special had a deep roster of guest stars, including Grace Jones singing “Little Drummer Boy”. Play something with a featured guest on an album.

Just gonna use the random button for this one as my mind is blank for guest appearances...

Well, this one certainly is an interesting combination

12/7 - Rugrats Chanukkah: This is the first childrens tv show to have a Hanukkah episode. Today is the 1st day of Hanukkah. Play something by someone who celebrates Hanukkah.

Today I learned that Geddy Lee describes himself as a Jewish Atheist. Also, both of his parents both survived concentration camps, and their story inspired the song Red Sector A off this album. Amazing.

A record where the the Hanukkah connection is in the title., the two heebs being fat mike and Eric Melvin. So happy chanukah, or as nofx state on another record "
Cause hey, we're the Brews
Sporting anti-swastika tattoos
Oi Oi we're the boys
Orthodox, hesidic, O.G. Ois"

Another choice would have been andy frasco, who was tons of fun at a recent indoor festival, but I haven't got his record, yet. Anyway I'm somewhere in there

This relentless pummelling of grindcore power violence would probably terrify most children...

Joell Ortiz & L'Orange – Signature

Unlike the insanity of feature-heavy hip hop albums in the 90s and 00s, Joell keeps it tasteful here with thee (KXNG Crooked, CyHi and Sheek Louch)

Geoff Berner – We Are Going To Bremen To Be Musicians
20231207_145550.jpg

Geoff Berner a/k/a The Whiskey Rabbi is very Jewish and often sings to Jewish themes. He also typically includes at least one song in Yiddish on every album. This album features "When Chanukah Comes To Town" - one of my all-time favourite seasonal songs (it also includes one of the most amazing takedowns of former Conservative Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper I ever heard - which I heard for the first time while he was performing it deep in "Conservative Country.")
