Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/6 - Christmas at Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: This special had a deep roster of guest stars, including Grace Jones singing “Little Drummer Boy”. Play something with a featured guest on an album.

Lots of guests on this one: Tom Waits, Jimmy Page, Bobby Womack...

The Rolling Stones - Dirty Work

12/9 – Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas: Best known for the Bing Crosby / David Bowie duet of Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy. Play something that bridges generations.

Trans-Canada Highwaymen "Explosive Hits Vol. 1" (2023 Pheromone Recordings)
This bridges many generations. A super-group formed of Canadian musicians that had their hey-day mainly in the 80's and 90's (Moe Berg of Pursuit of Happiness, Stephen Page of Barenaked Ladies, Chris Murphy of Sloan and Craig Northey of Odds), covering Canadian pop classics of the 60's and 70's (plus a brand new theme track), in a new album released this year but taking a riff on a 70's and 80's K-Tel compilation. And it's a total blast! And as an added bonus, it's even more colorful than the Stones Dirty Work album cover on the previous post!

12/7 - Rugrats Chanukkah: This is the first childrens tv show to have a Hanukkah episode. Today is the 1st day of Hanukkah. Play something by someone who celebrates Hanukkah.

X-Pensive Wino Waddy Watchel comes from a Jewish family (according to Wikipedia) so maybe he celebrates Hanukkah?

Keith Richards - Talk is Cheap

12/8 - The Year Without a Santa Claus: My favorite part of this special is Heat Miser and Cold Miser, two brothers who are constantly at odds. Play something that focuses on Hot or Cold, however you want to define it. Or two brothers who are / have been at odds.

The Glimmer Twins were at odds for much of the 80's culminating with Dirty Work. They apparently patched things up for this one in 1989.

The Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels

I am picking up on a trend.

I wanted to play some records from the mono box and then I thought: should I try to do a whole month?
To be honest, I haven't read through all the prompts for the month, so I'm probably doomed.

You can make it work.

12/10 – Scrooged: Bill Murray stars in this version of a Christmas Carol. Since this is the second appearance of this story, play a Ghost of Christmas Present, something by an artist you are hoping to find underneath the tree this year.

I thought their new album wouldn't arrive in time for Christmas as it's was bundled with other records, but it got here yesterday but it'll stay underneath the tree for now.
In the meantime let's go with....

The Rolling Stones - Blue and Lonesome

Prince "1999" (1982 Warner Brothers; 2019 NPG Records deluxe reissue)
One thing I'd like for Christmas this year is the deluxe version of Diamonds & Pearls. I'll likely have to make that happen myself, but I'm not beyond doing exactly that.
