Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

i got 3 VMP records that need a flattening... including the newest R&HH album.... if anyone is available I will pay for shipping and stuff I just have to find a shipper big enough but not too big

I’d be happy to help if you don’t mind sending to Nevada.
Not sure if IL is any cheaper to ship to, but I'll offer up as well :)

Record Pi seems to be on sale for $249 and free shipping now.

I have a Vinyl Flat but I look at this and want it instead because it has a digital thermometer and timer, which I would imagine makes flattening warps more precise? Does anyone have the Record Pi and can attest to its superiority?

I think someone here has both? But can’t remember who….maybe @AnthonyI ?

I believe someone does, but it's not me................yet. I have my vinyl flat down to a science and while I do think the Record Pi is better thought out, I can't seem to bring myself to spending the money, although always tempting. I'm sure in time I'll have one.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)

I do know a few people who have both and prefer using the Pi but unsure about which has “better results”. Think they both work well from what I’ve heard once you dial things in and figure it out

I have the Vinyl Flat so I'm not going to now buy the Record Pi unless I sell my VF to someone local first. But I don't have it down to a science. I find the temp of the pouch really varies and putting a thermometer in the pouch is inexact. I have overcooked some records (none irreplaceable or expensive, thankfully) and have had to cook some records 4-5 times to get it right, which is time consuming.

@AnthonyI : once you get this and try it out, would you report back? If it's significantly better, I may just go for it.

I own both. Generally speaking I prefer the Record Pi, but I did run into some records recently from @OnTheRoad which basically refused to flatten in the Pi, I think due to its lower temperature. I ended up having to pull out the Vinyl Flat, which runs 10 degrees hotter and allows you to tighten the plates a bit more.

That's the only time I've ever had any issues with the performance, though.

Of course :)

Ya, I like the vinyl flat, but it took time to get it down to some form of "If A, do B", type of process. And even then, it's not full proof, although, none of this ever is. Some vinyl just isn't going to be as responsive for whatever reason. I'll say, right off the bat, the Pi does seem to offer a bit more control and ease with the app and such, so we'll see.

Unfortunately, the warps coming directly from plants aren't getting any better, and the time, effort, and sometimes, no better result with an exchange made some sort of solution a must in my opinion.

I forgot to report this info...so it's a bit stale, but I had an opportunity to use my Record Pi on a UHQR Gaucho disc 1 last month. It had a mild warp that was causing my tone arm to rise about 1/8" in the outer area of the record. For those 4 people on here that don't know, UHQR vinyl is a clear 200g "Clarity Vinyl" record. Settings were 3 hours @ ~130°F. Results were stone-dead flat.

In fairness, I've had complete success in the past using a Vinyl Flat system. Those ventures were with black-only 120-180g vinyl. I wasn't nervous about tackling a 200g UHQR LP, but I was expecting to have to do at least 2-3 cycles to reach acceptable results. This once and done success had me pretty impressed.

I bought a RecordPi last year but, around the time it arrived, I realized that pretty much all the warps I’d been experiencing were due to my faux-leather slip mat being uneven. 😅 I swapped in a regular slip mat and all the warps are either gone or very minor. Since I haven’t had time to do an extensive spot check of my entire collection looking for large warps, I’ve still yet to use the Pi. 🤪
