Hip Hop

But what about us peter pans who hate when artist change like tyler did.
I loved tyler until after wolf where the style changed up :(

Lol I feel ya. I don't know about Tyler being successful staying where he was. To me that would just mean he'd have a new fanbase every couple years. Once the 18 year olds left for college new fans would come along. To me Tyler has taken us on a journey through his life with every album, and this album is where he is at. He struggled with accepting his bisexuality but came out on Flower Boy, and now he is telling us about a boy that was dating a girl, cheating with him, but ended it because of his fear of coming out.......This is Tyler's Channel Orange and I can accept and appreciate that personally.

Then you still got three sticky pudding albums to sticky pudding with - and isn’t that just a good thing to have?

Tech N9ne says this alot.
And it breaks my heart :(

When you absolutely love an artist and they change the style to cater to the mainstream audience and does a complete 360 on the roots it hurts.
Because you put your all into a guy. Some people got tattoos and spent countless time promoting the guy.

Then bam an entirely new artist emerges and you feel robbed of what could of been and told to put up or shut up tough shit.
Or as tech n9ne says "Buy my old music then"

Music inspires passion.
And sometimes passion isnt logical.

And it’s good that it hurts because it shows that you actually care and that the music made something with you. It breathes through you although you’re "just" consuming.
That’s something that we should hold on to and what keeps us going.
But that’s also why I stepped back from focusing too much on an artist - and why I might never understand the whole celebrity thing.
It’s a great thing to be able to identify yourself with other people out there, but in the end they’re creating art and living through that.
And if they change for whatever reason, it’s their live and you can either accept that change and feel the change in yourself or you just have to accept a different turn.
I don’t know if this makes much sense, but that’s kind of how I feel.

I don't know how people can want their favorites to stay in the same box their entire career and not evolve or go through life changes. We'd probly have way less artists off themselves tbh. They probably go mad trying to please the core by not changing, and being a puppet essentially

I just now care alot less bout tech n9ne "new" albums.
And I dont make the effort to buy everything on his label (he has other artist on there)
Endless turds.

But Its not like I can hate a guy who gave me like 15 years of great music lol so im still a big fan

With the amount of new music every single day. We need artist to remain who they are because its the only thing that separated them from being a drop of water in a OCEAN.
Everyone and there dog thinks they can make music these days.. its fkin endless lol
If you stand out enough to have fans you should continue making the same music but get better at that same music.

Otherwise you myaswell sink back into the ocean and be a nobody.
If I wanted something different I wouldve went to another artist to begin with.
Period.

And you should be.
Why turn on something that gave you so much energy, emotions and memories - just because you don’t like his new output?
Be grateful that the music touches and supports you the way it does - that’s the most we can ask for.

Highly disagree!
You’re mistaking something here.
(In an ideal world) It’s the artists choice who to be, what to do and how to express themselves.
If they would just follow what the masses are asking for you may aswell sink back into the ocean and be a nobody.

Maybe I get too invested in the artist as a person, and not their celebrity identity or image. So then when they grow, adapt, mature, and implement changes I look at the root and figure out why or what got them here. Like this album being about a relationship gone bad. He's giving us the full story. I accept it because I know this is where he was at in the last year or so

EDIT: Kendrick is a great example. GKMC - blame the hood and the people there for my problems. TPAB - Blame the system, society, and it's evil temptations for my problems. DAMN - nothing will change until I change myself. The growth of a man

I dunno the topics changed with kendrick but I still think he remains kendrick at heart. I love me kendrick haha
If kendrick turned around and started being a mumple rapper cause of "evolution" id have a broken heart.

I still think they owe something to the OG day 1 fans who helped them even have a career.
Not to mention some artist make wrong choices we human and if we truly consider ourselves friends/fans we should give them honest feedback not be sheep.

Look at DMX.
A guy I thought was one of the best and now is a crackhead.
I see that dude in RL imma tell him.
Get clean mthfka your making wrong choices and fkin up!

I aint gonna be a nut swinger and be like here bro heres 25 for more crack

And so would I.
But the point is, you can’t and should not dictate an artist who to be.
That shit will crush his spirit and his soul.
If he evolves into something different for whatever reason, it’s not only his good choice but his destiny.
And you can either follow him because you still feel his way or accept that he’s become something new.
I’ve made a documentary about a young musician, following him over a course of three years and that really got me understanding some things.
It’s not that change is easy, it’s the other way round but if you don’t feel like yourself with the same old you anymore, it will destroy you not going your own way.

I cant think of 1 case where it was a good choice tho lol But luckily in hiphop its "lightened" like it isnt so bad.
But in genress like "Nu-Metal" artist are known to change entirely out of genres.
Which fkin sux.

I grew up have friendships with alot of the musicians I use to listen to growing up so maybe thats why I feel more invested then some.

The artists don’t owe us nothing - that’s how I feel.
And honest feedback is the only feedback I’d ever give and sure it’s the best thing to help each other out, but you’re mistaking something here.
Artists should always listen to their heart and not to their fans.
And if their heart beats for money, it’s sad but acceptable.

Surprised that you feel this way because there are tons of people who love Kendrick who hate or at least hate that he did at least one of those 3 albums. They're all really different styles.
