Hip Hop

Looks like Madlib lost his house and a bunch of equipment in the fire. Couldn’t handle some of the comments though. There are some trash ass takes about LA and the fires going around. Feel lucky that all I’m dealing with is missing work, dirty ass air, and a car covered in ash. Having to pack some stuff in case of evacuation was stressful af and I couldn’t even begin to imagine having to actually leave and wonder if your house was still there. Really feeling for people who lost everything. 😔

We live in the dumbest of all timelines leading to all the conspiracies around the fires and California hate. Now we get 4 more years of chaos from the white house. Glad you're safe and it's going to be very interesting to hear about all the things that got lost in these fires.

May well be the biggest bitch move in hip hop history right here.

Eh. I don't know. Pushing a pedophile tag on to another man's name is up there. Especially if there really was some "botting "and "pay 4 play" shit used to push it over the top as well.

Right. Nevermind the fact that grooming allegations have been made against him for years before k.dot put it on a record. And nevermind that botting has benefited Drake's career hugely over the past decade. And nevermind that the song in question is a certified banger and probably did most of its streaming on the the strength of the fact that it's a better song than Drake has ever made.

But, hey, you do you!

I didn't say "nevermind" to any of that lol

But random "grooming rumors" and a huge record company allegedly funding a pedo narrative against you are nowhere near the same.

Not a single person, rapper or not, would just sit back and allow that. There's been some "rumors" about Jay-Z too. Best believe if Nas dropped Ether pt. 2 tomorrow labeling Jay a whole pedophile and going all out to push that narrative Jay would be taking Nas and anybody else behind that narrative in court too lol

Botting "hugely benefiting Drakes career" has nothing to do with botting a song labeling another man a pedophile.

If only UMG believed in this as much as you lol.

And I'm a much bigger fan of Kendrick's music than Drakes but Family Matters was easily the best song of the battle, imo. By far. Maybe I'm too old to understand dancing to a "banger" about potential child grooming and rape though.

And I'm also against the "wife beater" crap too. All "shock value" and "tea spilling" aside, Drake surprisingly outrapped Kendrick overall, imo.

Edit: "Drake says he's got bot receipts to show just how far the label went to turn Kendrick's song into an anthem. According to the suit, UMG paid a third party to use bots to increase the song's streams by at least 30 million -- and engaged in a "pay for play" scheme with at least one radio promoter."

Not looking good. I hope this isn't true.

Is it solely because of botting that I've lost count of how many times I've heard people play "Not Like Us" in public since it's came out, meanwhile Drake's disses only get brought up now as a reminder of how bad he whiffed it with his responses? Or are we allowed to give the general listening public some credit that they genuinely made a choice in this battle and pretty definitively decided who the victor was without a label subliminally telling them who had the better song?

Honestly it seems like Drake's just upset that the machine doesn't work the way he thought it did. Drake got real comfortable after being at the top in terms of numbers and statistics for so long and thought that having the commercial audience on his side in this battle was a given. It's clearly broken his (and his fans') brain that Kendrick managed to grab the ear of the radio with "Not Like Us", essentially taking Drake's lane out from under him and getting a certified hit in the process. It is inconceivable to Drake that someone could get a hit record out of this beef and it not be him, so he's scrambling trying to find a reason that Kendrick's success is fraudulent. I feel like that's really all this boils down to.

Sure. Believe and tell yourself whatever you want. None of that has anything to do with this lawsuit though lol

Keep thinking this is simply about "losing a rap battle" or "Kendrick made a hit" when literally 100s of millions of dollars are on the line when it comes to drake.

Let me get the rest of it out of the way: Drakes a bitch. He's soft. He's a colonizer. He's not "Real hip-hop" or "of the culture". Folks love Not Like Us. Kendrick Lamar won. Drake lost. Etc...

Again, if a record company really helped fund and push a pedophile label on to another man's name, nobody is sitting there and just accepting that without taking legal action. Especially not somebody with a brand such as Drakes to protect lol

You dismissing what I posted as irrelevant to the conversation just because you disagree with it and then zeroing in on my slight criticism of Drake rather than the meat of what I actually said makes me feel like we're probably not going to get anywhere here. All I'm trying to say is that Drake didn't have any issues with the system he's going after now for the fifteen years it was benefitting him, but now that his opponent is prospering off of it, suddenly there's a conspiracy going on.

Did UMG inflate the success of "Not Like Us" somewhat? I wouldn't be surprised, the same way I wouldn't be surprised to learn they inflated the success of every one of Drake's number 1 hits throughout his whole career. Your interpretation of Drake embarking on this whole mission to clear his name is a much more charitable view of the situation than I can muster. I don't believe for a second that Drake's doing all this simply because Kendrick him a pedophile over a Mustard beat. I think he feels betrayed by the machine because he didn't realize it can work in other people's favor as well and his response is to lash out and drag everyone down with him.

Cool. Again, obviously you're free to believe and tell yourself whatever you want. Let's see where this lawsuit goes.

Also, I wonder if UMG will stand on their previous threat to sue Kendrick if Drake decided to sue them and what they know to even suggest they have anything to sue Kendrick over.

I have a good idea of what it could be but let's see what happens before making any more baseless assumptions one way or the other JJ2OFy3.jpeg

Y'all remember this happening in real time?

A literal "pay 4 play" loophole right in front of our faces lol

Now ask yourselves how much this would skew a "battle" and elevate the popularity and numbers of a track when the streamers and YouTubers and content creators etc.. have no consequence and get more benefit and profits from pushing, promoting, hyping and playing the one pedophile song where the copy rights have literally been removed from it.

Then ask yourself why they would do this for a track labeling Drake a pedophile.

Then add on to that the alleged "botting" of "at least 30 million"

Nasty work lmao

UMG might really be screwed here but we'll see.
