Yeah, my impression is that he's upset because he wanted to flip them once the price is high enough. Otherwise, why was he sitting on them if they were "for family." Maybe he wanted his family to be able to flip them too, because they don't care about vinyl, so he was holding on to them. Maybe I'm just cynical though.
If I had an original Monet/Van Gogh/Picasso I wouldn't want a print of the painting even if I could afford to have one done, if that makes sense? I get vinyl is a different medium (unlike a painting there is more than one "original") but his intention with this has always been to attempt to make this stuff "high art", so I could see where he wouldn't want to do that. Collectors be weird sometimes man, I don't think these were about being able to listen to them.
I think that's a stretch. He could literally do an identical repress. He can say that if he wants, but it was made on a production line. Nothing made on a manufacturing line can ever be compared to an original painting. It is more comparable to a short run of woodcut/etching prints. Even that I think is a stretch since it is usually handmade by the artist. The music is the art. The cover design and packaging design are art. The product itself, if it is made in a standard way and if it is purposely limited for scarcity, is much more akin to an edition of a book or a collectible than an original painting.
if nothing else he just made all the other available copies more valuable by reducing the number of mint copies available.I'm not saying I agree with the thought process, just this is how I've taken what Gunns said about the topic. Comparing them to an original run of a print of painting would be more fair, but some of those go for thousands of dollars as well when they aren't repressed. Forced scarcity or not, it's something that has been happening in the art world for awhile and he's just applying it to records.

yeah, going forward any Daupe! release that I'm going for I'm going to order 2 copies since each time multiple people here miss out, so there's really no threat in getting stuck with an extra. though if the Pray For Paris drop is an indication of how they'll be going from this point on then there's no guarantee that any of us will get them. but I think I'm going to go straight for the solids/blacks rather than the splatters or other novelty variants since there are more of those pressed which increases chances of actually getting one.This all makes me sad, but also KARMA to WSG for sitting on em .
