Home Improvement Thread 2: Electric Redo the Loo

Quick update: I had a similarly stuck window on the first floor, checked it from the outside, and it seems the window is stuck to the runner; I didn’t paint them since closing them, but they’re stuck as though they had been painted.
Gotta figure how to shimmy the upstairs one to unstuck without getting up on a ladder (I can, but just don’t wanna)
Got ‘em: held a block against the frame and tapped it with a rubber mallet. Thank you for your moral support in this tough time. 🙏

Ya I gotta do 3 of these bathrooms and I'm not looking forward to like 20 g's a pop.

Yeah I ended up about €14k for the bits and builder and skips and stuff and then another €1k for the various finishing touches.

I could have saved money buying the bits and fetching them and hiring a builder separately but honestly I don’t have the time, own a trailer or have the inclination to make that €1k or €2k saving worthwhile.

Google tells me that’s about CA$24k but it is quite a large bathroom and our cost of living is insane so that probably shaves a bit off.

Having a pretty substantial stucco repair done today from some latent water damage that was here since we moved in. Got worse a year or two ago after some hard freeze/thaws. Brace yourselves for the carnage...

hey --looks like we are water damage twins...

we had a screened in porch that had a leaky roof and cracked foundation so we hired someone to tear it down and rebuild. They found lots of water damage on the side of our house, and a beam in the basement that was also rotting.....so that has been fun. slowly getting there....but definitely a lot of expenses we weren't looking to spend....we also had to get a new car last week because of a car accident so.....no records for me for awhile!

Great googly moogly... that looks way worse.

And yes we are getting new windows and doors in a matter of weeks.

Yeah, I'm realizing that... Trying to find the original sale photos from when we bought to convince you that it really was something you could overlook... Until you couldn't. I have a feeling the wallpaper and the cosmetic stucco repair did wonders to hide this damage.

Good news is insurance is covering some of it.
I mean honestly I'm pretty sure your dirt squisher could take care of this problem lickity split. I'd be willing to come over and give it a shot, just hand over the keys to that sweet sweet squisher and I'll get to work.

I had a very pleasant conversation with Gunnar regarding calibration of this machine the other day. It felt like I was talking to the Swedish Chef.

He closed every email as well with "cheers from sunny Magdeburg"

I don't think my insurance is going to cover it either....because it was a slow leak from the porch. I need to see if they will help cover the beam replacement in the basement though...

Yeah, I think my adjuster felt bad and is letting this fall under "water damage" from something like a plumbing leak. It's not a huge amount of coverage but every dollar helps.
