My point wasn’t that there weren’t negative reviews my point was that the we experienced the album was quite a bit differently and I don’t recall the album as being all that divisive. It receive more glowing reviews than negative ones and most everyone I knew (even the hip-hop kids) were buying and playing this album.
Ye's music is not mind-blowing in any way, to me.
Yeah, I am sure those opinion were there but they were in the minority.Yeah that wasn’t what I found either and isn’t it’s reputation. Everyone bought it and listened to it for sure but my recollection is that both in my group, critically and ,from magazines/tv, in wider culture it’s reputation initially was a complete division between adulation or feeling completely abandoned by the the band that made The Bends.

LOL! Sorry guys, I’m beat from defending Kid A’s innovative greatness (in the Radiohead thread of all places) after defending Steve Hyden’s writings. I can’t jump in on defending Kanye as well. Just know that you are all wrong and I’m sorry you are blind to Ye’s brilliance. It blows my mind that people like it…
Understood. From your perspective you felt it was divisive from mine and from the majority of album Reviews released at the time the album was very positively received only to be held in even higher regard as time has passed. As I keep saying that might have been your experience but it wasn’t mine, it felt like a pretty split division of the fanbase, the critics and wider culture at the time. The time that passed has seen its reputation grow imo. It was initially almost a cheap joke analogy for something being wilfully difficult. My opinion of it has certainly grown over time.
Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good.LOL! Sorry guys, I’m beat from defending Kid A innovative greatness after defending Steve Hyden’s writings. I can’t jump in on Kanye as well. Just know that you are all wrong and I sorry you are blind to Ye’s brilliance.

That is not what I am saying at all though. I said It was critically acclaimed and sold well which was what made it special. The reply was well, it wasn’t really that popular because lots of people were disappointed in the album and Nick Hornby didn’t like it.I agree with you that it’s brilliant but it’s this relentless insistence that it was universally loved by everyone from the start because that’s how you and your mates experienced it.
Hundred percent correct. but if you take into account critical praise beyond your personal taste there are not many artists that are both popular and critically adored. There are albums that aI personally don’t enjoy but I acknowledge their place in popular culture based on being both popular and critically praised. So regardless if you enjoy Kanye music (which is specifically what aI am addressing not his public persona) he his a culturally significant musical talent.Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good.
People people, please! Let's all just take a step back and remember why we made this thread in the first place... as a friendly place to discuss how fucking terrible Steely Dan is. Let's not lose sight of that fact.
i might be (in the) wrong (thread)

To be clear, I used the headphones emoji to react to this emoji of yours because I’m a sympathy puker and just hearing the sound of someone else hurling will do me in.
