I mean… they’ve released only two so-so albums since 2007. That’s 15 years of studio mediocrity (relatively speaking). And IIRC In Rainbows was composed in part of songs that had been floating around for a while. In retrospect, one can say they lost their creative spark as a group a long time ago.
 


A friend of a friend works for the merch side of the band—take this with a huge grain of salt— but they said that there will be no more albums but they may play live again down the road. The split is between the non-Smile members and Nigel Godrich. The other three don’t want to continue working with him
and feel like Thom values his input more than theirs.

I really enjoyed A Moon Shaped Pool. It might not be their best but I am glad it exists. They’ve been a band for 30 years now. There is no shame in moving on.
