Immerse Your Soul In Love - The Radiohead Thread

View attachment 162292

Okay look. I think we ALL KNOW how this is going to go for me. I'd appreciate it if aaaeveryone just said a little prayer to whatever god, deity or spirit they currently curry favor with. Thank you and dog bless.

Some positive vibes for you:

It will be perfect. Except for the warp. But that's ok.

In all seriousness, I'm not too versed in Radiohead pressings - is this is the go-to pressing for this album? That 10" pressing you sent my way is overall quite excellent but I remember you already had another that you liked better than that still.

Yes, either of the two original Parlophone pressings are the best mastered and pressed by a distance but there aren’t that many great copies because most have been sat in the gnarly printed card inners for over 2 decades.

This is the BASICALLY first press, there is one before it I believe but the only difference is the label code. So yeah I think it's the go to as far as I know. That copy I piffed you was originally from @Joe Mac and it sounds great, possibly better than the XL copy I have. However my cart was picking up a bunch of noise of some tracks so I switched to the XL. I actually currently have this same first press that I bought last year but it's not even close to NM (which it was sold as) so I am gunna give it one more shot. This is my last shot, then I'm officially done because you can't do better than sealed mint. If this one is a mess then it's not meant to be and I will officially give up and stick with the XL.

I actually think they’re concurrent and the same discs, the different label codes on the jacket were UK v rest of Europe as far as I’m aware.

Makes sense, I was never quite clear on that. I'm almost certain that when I crack this one open it will be scratched to hell by some errant piece of vinyl but who knows. Hopefully it's been sitting untouched on a shelf for 20+ years and was clean going into the horrible horrible scratchy printed sleeves. But either way I've done my best. My conscience is clean

Still haven't opened it? Your level of self-control is strong (he says to the guy that bought a $200 record).
Two things, one, not actually in my hands yet. But purchased, needs to be shipped to the store. Two, I'm trading in the same first pressing (but like VG/NM-) with 30% credit on trade ins towards it AND I have a $100 Christmas gift card towards the sealed one so HOPEFULLY it will only cost me a few actual bucks.

It's ok. We all do these kinds of mental gymnastics. ;)

(fingers crossed for you)

Oh I thought you’d returned the bum copy to the murder loft guy?

So... Covid hit and I got lazy. I decided that every once in a while you just make a bad call and this was mine so I just decided to trade it in and not fight it. He would have taken it back but whatever, it's his only income so I'm just gunna let it go. But I'm sure as hell never buying anything from him again.

I have had a few times like that, albeit not about records* and I just consider it trying to do a selflessly nice thing for no fucking reason other than it might be nice to.

* to the obviously stoned minivan full of kids who rear-ended (despite us being in a literal standstill traffic jam on I-95 going 0MPH but you were too stoned to notice) me and my completely-sober friends in my dad's minivan in '97 on our way back from seeing orbital and tool at lollapalooza in west palm and i didn't call the cops or get a report or do anything other than check that you were OK and we were all OK and tell you to chill out and be more careful kid: you're welcome and I hope you were nice to your folks later

So I decided to spin Hail to the Thief tonight for some reason. The copy I have isn't perfect at all, so I am assuming there is a better version out there. I was wondering what it might be. But...then I realized next year will be the 20th! anniversary of this album. It was the newest album of theirs that was out when I started listening to them. It was one that I've had an odd relationship with over time, but ultimately I think it's really great (duh). Anyway, do we think there will be a big nice deluxe anniversary edition next year? I used to have the double disc CD version that had all the extra songs. I wouldn't mind getting a lot of those on vinyl.

I would expect something…I also have a soft spot for this album…com lag would be great to have as its addition

It is a great album. There There is a fun one in a live setting. Mxamytosis and Wolves at the Door are straight classics for me. Those are the Radiohead deep cuts I wanna hear!

Maybe my favorite radiohead album (not their best in my opinion, but my favorite - so much attributed to the time of my life when it came out...junior year of college, which is now much longer ago than I care to admit). I’d add Scatterbrain to your list.

Scatterbrain, A Punch Up At A Wedding, and Go To Sleep are my favorite deeper cuts from HTTT. But really every time I listen to it I enjoy the whole ride. I don’t think it’s their tightest collection of songs. But when I enjoy basically all of it and find new things to appreciate most times, I’d say it might be up there for me.
