Immerse Your Soul In Love - The Radiohead Thread

I did a quick comparison to the 2016 XL 12" Kid A and it was kinda interesting. I didn't really listen to much between the two but what I heard the XL was bigger, wider stage, more low end but sounded more digital, everything was just a little more harsh/constrained in terms of its extension and didn't have that more intimate quality of the OG. The OG is totally smooth and present sounding, voices are more lifelike, instruments more natural. Everything sounds more... organic. But like I said the XL is actually better in a few ways which is probably mainly down to the 12" allowing the music to breath more. There's more room for bass and width of stage with the added vinyl real estate.

I have a bit of a complicated relationship with Radiohead. I think they’re a great band but I don’t love them. I haven’t listened to The Smile album yet either.
Oh, it's only like the best album that came out last year.
And I should know. I listened to ALL of them.

DISCLAIMER
The second part of the prior statement may not be like, ENTIRELY true.

I haven’t been keeping up with new music for a few years now. I’ll get to it eventually. I think part of it is the fact that I live far from any big cities so it’s not like I’m able to easily go to concerts. That makes it me feel less bad about missing out on any hot tickets, because my life would be more difficult if I felt like I needed to see artist X because they’re touring a great new album.

I think my issue with Radiohead is that they are not a fun band. Their music is too serious. When I feel like listening to them it means I’m not feeling great about the world.

I’m not sure any of this makes sense.

Oh I totally get this, I've seen Radiohead live once, on The Bends tour. Since then I haven't felt the need to see them live although I'm sure their shows are fantastic. But I was just referring to the fact that you haven't even listened to The Smile album yet, not that you haven't bought tickets. It's more upbeat than anything Radiohead has done in .. years. Tom Skinner from Sons of Kemet has a lot to do with that I think. Great album and not AS downbeat at most of the later Radiohead stuff. You should at least stream it.

I've been watching the NPR and KEXP live sessions of The Smile, and I'm realizing that I dont really like the band all that much, they're okay, but I just miss Radiohead.

The Smile just kind of bores me, especially the more upbeat, grittier tracks. I dont really want to see Thom and Johnny play 3 chords with a distortion pedal, with Thom wailing on over top.

Just not feeling The Smile, especially after how much I enjoyed A Moon Shaped Pool and the complexity/diversity of the songs on that album.

I really like The Smile and this album, but I have to say, I do often think, “these songs would be really special with Radiohead - like, the 3 of them are making all sorts of sounds and layers etc, but imagine if Ed were in there doing backing vocals and creating eerie background textures; Colin would free up Thom to play piano on lots of songs (and frankly get better tones out of the bass)”

Man I’d much prefer new material than more retreads.
Yeah, I also feel like I’ve only had most of their albums on vinyl for like 2 years, so it feels icky to just keep buying multiples of albums I just recently bought. But i’m sure they’ll include the com lag ep with this httt 20th anniv version, so I’ll be at their mercy once again.
