It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

He has a good coaching and playstyle that hasn't worked out for him yet. Would much rather have taken a punt on him instead of Parker or Martinez. Everton are probably a good level to see if he can do it with a little bit better of a squad.

Honestly I‘d not pick either of those 3 at the 4th most successful club in English history. Off the back of Ancelotti and him being backed I think they can attract better. They’re not going back to Martinez anyhow after last time. All 3 of them would be a big step back from an established Premier League manager, never mind Ancelotti.

Everton was a big shock for Ancelotti to go there. It was. Yeah 4th biggest, we've been through this, but right now that is still a surprising get for their current level. You'd not be shocked to see Nottingham Forest with their 2 CLs get Ancelotti? Everton don't have the pull for another manager like Ancelotti. Potter, Moyes, even Howe are all getable and may do a good job.

Most successful was my line. Which is true, Spurs certainly have more money amd a more sparkly stadium right now, I’d not argue with you there. Although still 6th.

Right, and right now they're the more attractive team. That wasn't necessarily my point but it does apply. Just because someone has X number of trophies that they won X number of years ago (*cough*Spurs*cough*) doesn't mean they are a good fit for a prestige manager or player. The problem being is that there's so much money in the PL and UEFA comps that a few years doing well (*cough*Spurs*cough*) puts them above a more historically successful club like Everton, Villa, Sunderland, etc. etc.

If you believe the rags and Sky, it seems Nuno is emerging a favorite for Goodsion Park.

Yeah that’s what I’ve been hearing. Given some of the rumblings coming out of Wolves it seems that he wasn’t loved outside the first team squad, I think Everton need a club builder not a 3 year team builder.

True but Everton now have the money and have the stadium on the way. Their history is huge even on that scale and not quite as ancient as those others. I think that more than any other club there’s a giant sleeping there. What Spurs will always have is London, big foreign players seem to love that irredeemable hell hole for some unknown reason!

Poor Everton got shafted by Liverpool in the 80s with the European ban. Who knows how big they could have become.

If you're rich most places are nice. Close to a busy airport that can take players direct out of London is probably appealing too. Reminds me of an Axel Witsel quote about Dortmund where his favorite thing was that he was so close to the Belgium border so he could leave and visit family.

Honestly I hate London, it’s too big, too busy, too expensive and the people are rude. But I can see the attraction, whilst it’s a normal sized city for you it’s huge on a European scale. It’s so multicultural and diverse that no matter where you’re from in the world your community is going to be represented. It’s why the South American’s and the like always flock there.

I’ve never been but I don’t know if I could live in a city that size. I wanted to live in NYC when I was younger but now I could never. Too expensive, too loud, too far from nature, too expensive, too much traffic, too many people, too expensive. But having pockets of minority communities has to be an appeal for those players like you said.

Yeah and as a footballer bigger clubs are in cities and larger towns. You aren’t going to see Yorkshire Dales FC filling out a 50,000 seater unless it’s with sheep 😂

Can they be wearing kits of the team they support? Coordinated bleating is necessary also.

Still a better atmosphere than the Emirates!

Man do I hate that stadium, so soulless in comparison to Highbury, that place had atmosphere and class!

I don’t you could get the sheep to attend a match at the Emirates. Do sheep even like prawn sandwiches?

Hey, speaking of LA Galaxy’s new keeper is doing well over here. He mentioned he was surprised at the atmosphere given the Covid restrictions. He’s English and came from West Brom. We also got Derrick Williams who has represented Ireland at times. They both have been doing well. Willams is going. The get a multi game suspension because of a recent tackle.

Wiki said he played for the boys in green 3 times. I have no memory of him. That said for the last 20 years Ireland have played utterly forgettable football which has allowed us to punch above our weight. Several players and teams merge into forgettable 90 minute 1-0s, 1-1s and 2-1s. There are a few wins against Italy that emerge from the mire. We now attempt to play entertaining football and are being destroyed. Fecking Luxembourg beat us last time out…

I had a roommate from Lux. One time after watching San Marino get routed by Germany we both agreed we should try to get on one of these little nation’s teams.
