It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

He got injured trying to grab an incoming ball. Might've tweaked his knee. The field looked bad. I'm glad our two stars were who brought the match home. Horvath played really well in relief. The goal scored on him was some terrible defending by Ream. The penalty stop was incredible since it felt like all the hard work would be for naught.

Ream is so shit. I have no idea why he keeps getting included in the squad

I'm a Ream apologist dating back to his days with Red Bull. But at this point, the man is a statue. The second that Mexico put in Lainez, Berhalter needed to do something/anything to help out Ream.

If anyone at the USMNT watched Ream this season, they' know that Fulham's defense stopped conceding 3-4 goals a game once he stopped playing

I was also surprised at how easily MX was getting past the fullbacks also. Both those guys play for some pretty reputable European teams.

Pulisic and Reyna did well though and Leget looks good when he gets in.

A couple of days till euro2020 starts. I wonder how much covid will shape this tournament. A positive test within a team could just completely change the course with quarantine for parts of the team or other consequences. Let's hope it's not becoming the defining factor of this tournament

Didn’t Busquets already test positive?

Yes, which means he probably misses at least two matches, the team has to work out individually in the moment and Spain canceled their last pre-tournament game. Having that happen a week or two into the tournament might just kick a team out

Ream has no business being on the National team now (he is not even a regular starter at Fulham I believe), must fill that spot with someone.

It was a fun match (except Reyna being concussed), reminded me of a old firm derby. Gold Cup and WCQ is going to be a war,

Just wanted to bump these with the Euro's starting Friday. Enjoy the month of football everyone.

I didn't really focus on this until yesterday. I forgot that UEFA had expanded the number of teams in 2016. While I'm still extremely excited, it seems like the talent pool is a bit diluted so the group stage has some snoozers (on paper).

That said, Germany, France, and Portugal ended up in the same group? Holy shit!

The Group of death no doubt!

It's crazy to me that the Euros years ago only had like 4 teams in it when it first started. that seems like an invitational only tournament instead.

A friend says watch for Macedonia to upset someone, perhaps the next Iceland ?
They did just beat Germany in WC qualifying! My wife works on a development project in North Macedonia, and they were understandably ecstatic.

Thanks @wokeupnew for the graphic. It would have been much better for my schedule if UEFA could've put France v. Germany on a Saturday or a Sunday.
