It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

That game made me realize that England can’t just expect Mount to do all the heavy lifting. If Phillips starts to drive forward like he had in this game then they’ll do well. But it shouldn’t be coming from one of their DMs. I think Grealish should get involved maybe in place of Foden, Rice or Sterling. Kane can’t keep dropping deep because he was terrible trying to grab the ball from midfield and making something happen. Walker is not as good of a crosser as Trippier or James. If they’re set up to use wing backs or crossing from the Full Backs, then use Full Backs who are good crossers.
It was a decent first game for them as a squad. You kind of get the feeling that as/if they progress through the tournament they'll settle on a final 11 that's different from what was just played. The line up against a harder team will be different I think.

I don’t think the centre halves are good enough defensively to go for two number 10s in midfield. I think you need a sitter a runner and a 10 and I liked the balance in the midfield.

I also think the fullbacks don’t need to cross as often as they do, with their inside forwards looking to play between the opposition full back and the centre halves the role of the full backs should be to play high and wide to open up those channels. That’s why Trippier was such a weird selection, he naturally comes inside onto his stronger side off the left which closes off that channel.

Lets not turn this into another hot take social media thread, a man came within seconds of dieing yesterday, just be glad he is alive today and can hopefully have a normal life now and enjoy some football this summer.

WTF man, what of those is a 'hot take'? And who do you think you are telling another adult what's safe to say and what isn't in an open forum? Is that what we do now when we don't agree with another person's opinion, call it a 'hot take' and try and shut them down by saying that's just not welcome here and adding a point which wasn't even the topic of debate? How Trumpian. Enjoy your fuckin echo chamber.

It was definitely a weird selection with Trippier on the left but he did alright.

Yeah I was thinking who leaves if Grealish and Mount both play, probably one of Foden or Sterling because Rice or Phillips alone with that shakey back line would be dangerous. Like @Thackeraye said, their still finding there feet, and Croatia barely threatened that much. I just think England should be creating a few more good chances with the talent they have.

Yeah I mean I like Rashford and Sterling either side of Kane too because it gives him more space and options when he drops deep. But then Mount looks so good and I think Foden is the special youngster it’s hard to know.

I think Trippier was in it to cover for Mings, had Maguire been fit I’d say Shaw was in. I think it caused more problems to England offensively than it solved defensively though.

There must be millions of people each day who have to continue their job when a colleague is taken sick, collapses or worse. Why those footballers who have resources for trauma counselling at their fingertips should be treat any different is beyond me especially given they'd seen their colleague taken from the pitch in a stable condition
Frankly, if we had a similar situation at work and the bosses wouldxpect everyone to get back to work as normal afterwards i'd start looking for a new job. And although they certainly have resources for trauma counseling they obviously could not acces before ghe game resumed yesterdy.

Given that, as far as I know, none of the Danish players have quit and are looking for another job, you must be in an exceptional position both morally and financially.

There has been ample criticism from the danish team about the poor options given to them by uefa.
And i am in neither in a special position financially or morally and did not claim the latter, but I dare to have a different opinion than you on the matter.

My opening post was that millions of people each day have to continue their job when a colleague is taken sick, collapses or worse and that footballers shouldn't be treat any differently. Is your difference in opinion that footballers should be treat differently or that millions of other people aren't expected to continue working, or maybe both? You also don't have to claim to be in a special position morally to come across like you hold one.

I’d rather we changed it so we all had the chance for the mental health break when and if it’s needed. It was needed there. If folk can see that and it means mental health cover improves in another workplace then I’d rather that.

I think that's a wonderful aspiration to have but, I just don't think it's realistic in the workplace, especially when a colleague can be seen leaving in a stable condition. I love that we're at a stage where we can talk about it as an option but realistically, any major construction for example would be stymied with delays if we allowed medical emergencies to delay the rest of the workers. Most manufacturing would be hit hard too. Denmark defo has the opportunity now though if they feel like they have been treated unfairly to pull out.

I would mainly echo what Thackeraye already said, mental health breaks should be afforded when needed for the milliin others as well as the players on the pitch yesterday.

Who decides when these breaks are needed? Should Denmark drop out now after this event?
