Sorry if this was mentioned (I didn’t go back to look), but there was an article in The Athletic yesterday stating that due to quirks of the brackets, England (or whoever) would actually be better off coming in second in the group. I’m NOT implying that this had anything to do with today’s outcome:

For England that would mean giving up home court advantage in the next two rounds and is a risky business in the group constellation. So I do not think it is likely. Because winning or a draw in the last game would put them on first, losing that would risk them becoming third
