It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

I don’t think it had much to do with ability, I was hearing that he felt that there were some players who were plenty talented enough but that when things got sticky were happy enough to hide in the shadow of the few leaders they had. I think that’s why he liked Tom Davis so much, might not be the most talented of the midfielders they had but did his job, followed instructions and worked his arse off. That’s kinda what I was getting at when I said they need more leaders in their squad. A dominant centre half wouldn’t go amiss either.
From what I've seen of Everton I have been impressed by Michael Keane, who has also been in and around the England squad too. Is he not who they're looking for, or do they want to replace Mina instead?

i think they have a lot of similar centre halves in Keane, Holgate and Godfrey. Good on the ball, quick sweep well and tidy but not dominant. Godfrey is the pick of those for me. Keane is a funny one, I like elements of his game but am overall not convinced, there’s something that I can’t quite put my finger on that’s missing. It’s been the same since he was a kid at United. His twin brother Will was a centre forward and a real superb talent but sadly got a series of real nasty injuries at a critical age and ended up slipping down the leagues. He might be at Wigan now?

Mina is that dominant centre half in a way but I’m not convinced. All I see is strong and good in the air, I’d be worried with him in my team because he isn’t great positionally and he’s got the ability to be really rash in the challenge.

Are we doing a fantasy Premiere League again for the upcoming season? I know we have a good 6 weeks. Just checking so I can start planning my redemption!
Someone here (I have no idea who) just needs to restart the league again and I think we'll all be rejoined. You can create a team now and do unlimited tinkering before the first GW deadline, I have already.

I’m a waiting to see if the Sancho deal finally gets over the line and how much he is going to be before I decide which way to go!
First gameweek is tough. Not knowing which existing players end up being used, do new players need a few weeks to bed in and start games? I think I used my free hit in gameweek 2 last year because I made the wrong call with so many players.

Also the matchups from majority of the big teams are tough!

I think we’re away at Brentford if my memory serves me right. Newly promoted teams early can be tough if they’re up for it, even if they prove to be crap later they tend to be full of enthusiasm early doors.

Oh right it’s the woolybacks first off! That’ll be a battle. I wonder if they’ll be allowed to come and watch away and be as classy as always smashing up the gaff while singing Munich songs.

Maybe our first away is Brentford then!
