It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Well you got your wish @wokeupnew, club officially announced this morning! This is going to be pretty compelling watching however it turns out!
I'm excited to see the team playing together, well coached and have a plan again. Seems like it's been dragged along for over 3 years now. We've seen some semblance of unity when Jose first arrived and the first half of last season but it's been mostly shit. Half of Spurs fans want to get rid of half the squad. I don't think these are bad players bar a couple that are un-savable (Winks, Dele) but they just haven't really been coached for a long, long time. We were Individual Brilliance FC for most of Jose's time here.

We will see how Ndmobele reacts to a Conte fitness session šŸ˜‚. I really donā€™t rate Dier or Lo Celso but there is some undoubted quality there. Agree the best thing for Alli and Spurs is a parting of the way and a fresh start. There is a talent in there somewhere but I think he needs a new environment to try and coax it out!

One thing is for sure the combination of him and Levy has my popcorn out and I am expecting foreworks if there isnā€™t Ā£100m + for him to spend in January.

I have thought for a while though that 3-5-2/3-4-3 is the best formation for what you have and that does suit Conteā€™s choices in his last few roles.

Conte wanted Tanguy last season so maybe he'll thrive - Italian Media Claim Tottenham's Tanguy Ndombele Is The Prototype Of A Midfielder For Antonio Conte's Inter

Conte worked closely with Paratici (Spurs DOF) at Juve so I don't think there'll be fireworks at least for a little while. It's like Jose's first half season again, he's going to have a lot of leeway with results and the squad. Spurs finally have the stadium working for them with NFL games and boxing. I think there will be money to spend.

I don't understand why Nuno never played with a back three when he was so successful with it at Wolves. I think he was under too much pressure, didn't have time to train the players with it, and because Spurs have used a back 4 almost exclusively over the past 4 years.

Out of the CL already, probably. Youā€™d be on 2 pts after 4 games without his goals šŸ˜³

Well thank god we bought him then šŸ˜‚

Seriously though once Varane went so did all composure, only Bailly behind Ronaldo deserves any credit tonight. Could see a pasting again on Sunday if we play like that.

Is there a statue built at Old Trafford yet? Man is only 36... Crazy to see what he keeps doing match after match.

If Ronaldo gets one you probably need one for Rooney, Giggs , Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Cantona, Schmeichel, Neville, Yoke, Cole, OGS, etc. etc.

So I don't think it'll happen unless he single-handedly wins United the Champions League this season. I could see them actually doing it.

Watching the UCL multicast and I just canā€™t with that Hummels red card decision in the Ajax v Dortmund game.

Edit: I agree with the red against Atletico, though.

terrible decision, but they're now up 1-0 so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I also discovered the multi-cast only yesterday and it's perfect for days like today that I don't really care about any individual match that much

If Eric doesnā€™t have one no one else after canā€¦

Honestly outside of the two great managers itā€™s rare for United to have statues of players, until the Trinity statue there was only the one of Denis Law inside the Stretford End that was gifted to the club by the supporters club after his retirement.

I think the next one due up is for Jimmy Murphy, Mattā€™s assistant who rescued the club after the Munich disaster when Matt was in an intensive care bed in Germany.
