Yeah it’s a rough one in a lot of ways but that sale had to be blocked and he also had to be stopped form asset stripping the club if he got that desperate. It does leave the fans in a really shitty position but I suppose it pales into insignificance in relation to what is going on in Ukraine right now.

Real questions need to be asked about the FA and Premier League in relation to allowing 3 of their clubs being allowed to be bought for sports washing purposes, it was always likely to come to this in relation to one of them. Particularly with Newcastle tbh. I think there was a certain naivety in play with the Chelsea and City takeovers but it’s pretty clear that the Saudi state owns Newcastle, that the guarantees given that the PIF isn’t the state wouldn’t wash in a European court and that it’s a sportswashing project. The language used by Staveley in her bizarre defence of Abramovic contained pretty much the dictionary definition of sportswashing.
