It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take Foden over Sterling in particular and probably Saka too. And long term he's definitely a generational talent but in the 10 right now and based on form I'd take Madison.

I think Saka has to get in based on his recent form and his opening game. But yeah Foden can play anywhere across the front 3 potentially. I’m never 100% with Maddison. I like a lot but I’m always slightly reserving superlatives because I think he might be another Grealish, fine at a lower level when a team is built around him but horribly exposed as not quite that good at a higher level.

I don’t think reverse curse works if it’s a conscious decision? It needs to be incidental surely? Otherwise you’d just keep trying to fuck up…
No I felt like we were gonna lose and surely would've been a thrashing had I did start him. So I said well if he's on my bench he will definitely get a clean sheet lol

The first was brilliant opportunism but that second was magnificent.
I’ve been watching Brazil at WCs since 1990 and that was the most prettiest goal we’ve scored (beating out Ronaldinho’s beauty vs England in 2002).

I’m quietly excited about the fact Neymar will miss some time. I think this Brazil team can play even better without him. We won the Copa America 2019 sans Neymar, so this group knows it can be done. That bench mob that came on yesterday was so exciting, and it didn’t even include Bruno Guimarães, who has been in top form.

Frankly, I’m far more concerned about Danilo missing time, because his immediate sub is a semi-retired Dani Alves. Hopefully Tite will play Militão instead, since this time around Brazil’s full backs are actually playing as defenders rather than wingers as they usually do.

I agree with you. When Neymar went off Brazil were much more fluid. He’s immensely talented, for all that he’s an annoying shit, but everything goes through him when he plays. When he went off the interchanging of positions and speed of play was a joy.

I still couldn’t tell you if Ronaldinho meant that goal in 2002. It looked like a cross, but Seaman was susceptible to the chip but it really looked like a shanked cross but then if anyone had the talent to mean it…

1990 was the first World Cup I remember too but I was very young, 7, so it’s more like a collection of images than a set of definied memories. O’Leary’s penalty against Romania, Schillachi knocking us out, Gazza’s tears etc. 1994 is the first one I remember fully.

And then you have Australian Football which is even closer to Rugby....

Aussie Rules is, beyond the ball shape, incredibly close to Gaelic Football. In fact our amateur game sees a lot of players lost to the professional Aussie Rules.

There used to be a mixed rules international series between an Aussie Rules select and a GAA select. It was become a bit too close to free scouting for the Aussies…

Rugby players don’t wear Kevlar armour…

A saying that stuck with me over the years is that Rugby is a brutal game played by gentlemen while American Football is a gentleman's game played by brutes.

At this point, I think it would be the equivalent of gladiatorial combat to the death if they didn;t have the kevlar armor, and even then....

Hmmm….

Maybe on the pitch but whoever said that has never been on tour with rugby lads…
