It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Only a straight red. I think a second yellow would just be the one match.

Red cards and yellow cards

During the World Cup, if a player receives a yellow card in two different games during the tournament, he will be suspended from his team’s next fixture.

However, yellow card tallys will be wiped after the quarter-finals.

If a player is shown a red card then they will also be suspended for the team’s next fixture.

With a straight red it's at least one game and can be more games which is decided individually. Two yellows in one game just give you ne game suspension

Thought it was two games suspension but one game makes more sense in a world cup

Not Portugal? how does Brazil feel about Portugal generally?

In this case it’s more of a Messi > CR7 thing. I haven’t lived in Brazil in 2 decades so I can’t do any boots-on-the-ground reporting on that. I am about 25% Portuguese but even so… should a former colony support the nation that colonized it?

(I probably wouldn’t mind if Portugal won it all, but only if Ronaldo plays no part in it.)

I'll cheer for France as my #1 other country, as usual, so I guess there's sometimes some affinity for the old cousins. The 4 UK teams are usually right after for me so too bad they're going head to head with England already.

But yeah, Ronaldo... I don't follow much and that guy only rubs me the wrong way. Completely different feel for Messi.
