It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

At this point in time is Tottenham a more attractive proposition than West Ham for instance? I think the West Ham ownership are more responsive to a coaches needs/wants and there's certainly less pressure. If I'm Poch im certainly not going back.

Yeah I think there’s more growth as a club in spurs and if you can feed that front three there is more potential in the squad. It’s also always going to have more glamour as a club. Plus they’re still in the champions league, West Ham won’t be near that level in the next 10-15 years.

What West Ham have in their favour is that they basically stole that stadium to the point that there are inquiries going on as how they got such a long lease of state property at such ridiculously favourable rates.

There's no question that the potential for Spurs is higher but we've been saying that for 40 years 😆.
There's something wrong there in that we consistently see a lack of long term vision for the team. We saw it at United after Fergie left and I believe they have now got it right with Haag. Difference is with Spurs they haven't got it right since eerrrr..Nicholson?
There's been flashes for a season or 2 under Venables and Poch but other than that 🤷‍♂️

True but West Ham have never even done that. Other than a couple of cups with those 3 England players they never stop droning on about and a shock one with Brooking they’re a lower mid team that’s often been relegated. They have a much higher opinion of themselves as a club than reality and their fans are toxic.

But that's in the past Joe. The potential and fan base is there. Bigger than Chelsea even.
Sure, every one associates the core fans with the ICF etc but that's changing.
Look, I have no love for West Ham and I'm only using them as an example of a team with growing ambition and being a great landing spot for a coach that won't have the huge fan expectation of a Spurs.

I dunno. They way they turn on managers so quickly when they “don’t play the West Ham way” or then do and nearly go down. The past is proven, they’ll have to show something to prove that they can compete and grow going forward beyond Moyes working miracles for a couple of seasons. It not like the two pornographers have Chelsea or city or Newcastle money either that pretty much guarantees success.

West Ham like to act like a big club but they’re not. I’ll agree the potential is there with the stadium, fans, being in London. But to compare them with Spurs and how they’re a better club for a manager is ridiculous

Also Rice goes in the summer to protect his value and they’re once again a bottom 5 team seems a more realistic future for them to me…

I'm saying they are a better landing spot for a manager to grow with a club than Spurs. Moyes has took them so far and done a great job. He has solidified and put them on the map. It's primed for somebody like Poch who has a more attack minded attitude to come in and take them to the next level.
Spurs are at the level now that West Ham aspire to but is a top tier coach going to go there and be able to achieve the success that Spurs fans crave? And if so, who? And how much time will he be given? They don't have the resources of City, United, Newcastle, Chelsea.
It comes down to expectation and I think Spurs fans expect to much.
Arsenal are doing it the right way. They know the resources they have and have given Arteta time to rebuild. Are Spurs brave enough to do the same?

Dunno. I look at that squad and think Moyes has outperformed it. Pretty massively. Loosing a leader in Noble is hurting them. This summer Rice goes. 2 years left on his contract means it’s now to make the money. He won’t sign a new one without them qualifying the for the champions league, which they won’t. Take him out and I don’t see leadership. I see the same old frail West Ham with flakey forwards finishing 12 in a good year but more often 15/16/17.

Dunno. He’s pretty flaky and can do some really stupid things. Royal is shit though. I’m surprised young Djed Spence hasn’t had more of a run, I know he’s very attacking and leaves spaces but he’s also quite exciting too!

This is partially why I want a new manager IF they’re going to play the youth. Spence has looked promising whenever he’s had some playing time. But it’s not enough time so he’s an unknown. Aurier has a howler in him from time to time but he’d be better as a wing back than RB.
