It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Is there an MLS thread? I'm all of a sudden trying to start following the MLS, but I'm kind of overwhelmed by the number of other leagues that might be discussed in here.

Not specifically. It has always been open to talk about it in here but judging by the amount of MLS speak/followers we get I’d say it’d be a pretty quiet thread. Honestly, even in this one it’s largely 3 or 4 of us that do the majority of the talking 😂.

For the most part the main conversation in here is England/European continental unless it’s World Cup/Euros time.

Feel free to jump in with MLS talk! @Dtknuckles and @Ginormousthumbs are the resident MLS'ers. I enjoy watching Orlando City as the playoffs get close myself! Also: BRING BACK THE TAMPA BAY MUTINY!
 
i don't think i will ever fully understand the shoulder to shoulder rule given the way the refs call some fouls and not others

It really should be that when you’re running side by side you can use the fact you’re stronger to lever the opponent off the ball. Once you’re charging or you’re hitting another part of the opponents body it’s just a foul.

i just saw it on two separate ocassions and it may have lent a tad bit of clarity....if you are on the ball and someone comes in shoulder to shoulder it's a foul, but if you both are in pursuit of possession u can use ur shoulder? That's basically what happened in the Brighton match

It’s kind of a bit more that that. If I’m on the ball and we’re side by side you can lean in shoulder to shoulder and ease me off it if you’re stronger. What you can’t do is run sideways into me and push me off it with a shoulder charge.

Most referees are just a bit shit right now to be honest.

The other things is the ball has to be in playing distance. So if I’m a speed merchant and I knock it clear to run onto you can’t just shoulder me into touch. You realistically have to be levering me off the ball to then play it yourself.

I’m not watching tonight, have a chill with records night before our match tomorrow!
