It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

If they did sell him: they'd have to use some of the money on a replacement but the window closes in 3 weeks so they'd have to be very quick. The money made off the sale is between the two clubs. Kanes contract and wages would be between him and Bayern if they bought him
Is there any way Bayern takes him without him signing a new contract with them first or would any deal be contingent on him signing a new contract? In American sports leagues some teams will trade for a player on the last year of his contract as a sort of rental hoping he will get them to a championship and/or the player will have loved his experience and want to sign with them long term.

That'd be a loan but Tottenham wouldn't do that unless Kane absolutely refused to play and threw a tantrum to get out or something
Isn't there talk of Kyogo following his coach to Spurs if Harry leaves or is that just talk?
Interesting

There are loan deals in football where the owning club retain the registration but loan the player for a period of time for a fee and/or covering all or a part of the players wages. It won’t happen because it would be an exceptionally poor move for spurs. He isn’t singing a new contract, a loan fee is much less than a transfer fee and I don’t see him signing a new spurs deal full stop.

True I just know he'd rather be anywhere than with PSG and thr Mbappe drama

I think his existence at PSG is a primary cause of pretty much all of the issues Mbappe has had with PSG since joining the same summer!

Neymar for me is potentially as toxic a presence as an unhappy Messi or Ronaldo whilst also being a long way off them talent wise. There is no player in world football I’d less like to have as a player at my club.

Sky are reporting Bayern have upped their offer for Kane to €110m (£94.5m).

It’s got to be close now.
Nah, not close yet. Levy had always wanted £120m up front, no add-ons. Whether that is rational for a 30 y/o in the last year of his contract is another story. Bayern want Kane. They can have him for that price. Next summer, Kane will go to wherever he chooses, Bayern would not realistically be his primary destination so it’s this summer for them and for Levy to make some money off him if his price is met. It kind of goes both ways for both clubs.

As for replacements we have Richarlison. Spurs signed a 19 y/o Argentine wonder kid Veliz today who I believe will be staying with the club instead of going on loan. We’re also looking at Gift Orban who’s a Nigerian striker currently playing in Belgium who’s tearing up that league. Contingency plans in case Kane goes. I also think Son could do a job as striker since he’s done well whenever Kane has been injured in the past.

You’re right with the scenarios though. Levy really wants this season to go well and for Kane to sign a new deal. I still think that can happen. There were some light rumors that Kane wanted to sign a deal right after we beat Man City 1-0 and Kane broke Greaves club record for most goals scored. It’s not outside of the realms of possibility but it’s a big gamble and I blame Levy for even getting to this scenario where the club’s best ever player may want to leave because he feels the club is lacking ambition.

I said it at the time and I’ll double down on it now. Sacking Pochetino, Spurs’ best manager since the early 80s by a massive distance was the single stupidest footballing decision that a club has made in recent history. It was his first minor bump caused entirely by the club not signing a single player in the previous 18 months and he would recovered once backed.

If the rumours are true that Lewis has said to Levy that he signs or you sell this window then I think it puts a different complexion on this. That’s why I think Bayern have to be close. They’re not going to be £25.5m off after a fortnight of talks. Prior to sky reporting that a couple of weeks ago I was where you are.

I 100% agree. Hindsight 20:20. Should have upgraded some players and weathered the bad form instead of letting him go. Going in for José/Nuno/Conte after that we’re even worse mistakes.

I don’t think Lewis has anything to do with the club anymore. He was removed in any official capacity (titles only because he’s not making any decisions in the slightest) last fall and his daughter is controlling his shares, but it’s really Levy’s club right now.

These leaks are all PR for all we know and deal was completed recently. I think he stays this season even though the money to help bolster other areas would be better.

I’ll have to dig out my posts from back then but I think it’s one of the most shocked I was a sacking in the last 10 years.

Levy has had effective day to day control from the beginning but is still largely an employee though? If it’s coming from Lewis himself or whomever controls his shares then Levy has to either act or be seen to defy an order from the money men who ultimately control his position? That could be messy?

It’s technically owned by ENIC for which Lewis’ family owns the lions share. Levy has about 30%. I just don’t believe Lewis would say sell Kane now. He’s so far removed from the club that it screams click bait when I first saw that rumor.
