It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Some good euro matches tomorrow. Southgate should start Nketiah Saka and Rice if he wants the easy W

He never drops Kane but 2 and 3 for sure.

Scotland played really well last night. Full points from 5 in a group with Spain and Norway. They could qualify during the week without playing if results in the others go their way.

So far he seems to be really happy and I’m glad for him. He was my favorite player to watch at Leicester.
I was thinking about if the Spurs are a better team without Kane. And then I think about how Kane would have fit in with this coaching system.

They’re the most spurs side spurs have had probably since wide boy Harry was in charge. Time will tell if that defence makes them not just spurs but spursy. Maddison is absolutely an almost arcytype of what I would consider a spurs player. Vardy was always my favourite player to watch at Leicester until he went over the hill.

I think Spurs are a better team without him but that’s mostly due to Ange more than Kane/other factors. If Kane bought in then I’d be happy to have him. However, it seems like he didn’t really like it at Spurs for a while and has been looking for an out. He can enjoy his participation Bundesliga trophy while Ange builds something special.

I’ve been there. You lose your best player and you think wow all of a sudden the team is playing more freely rather than serving the star. Lesser lights are shining. Then you come to the big tight game and you don’t have the player that makes the difference and you lose the title to Chelsea by a point. Damnit!

I think it swings both ways. Right now, Spurs fans are feeling “we don’t need him!” And he’s feeling “I’m glad I’m gone!” Like he mentioned in this recent interview. But years from now he’ll be appreciated and he’ll miss/appreciate his time at Spurs more.

Oh it totally does. I remember feeling free from Ronaldo and the circus and the eyes to Madrid and their whole constant all out media assault. And then Rooney had a hell of a season out from under the obligation to do his running. But then in the two big games we lost by maddeningly tight margins and missed out at good runs at the two biggest trophies. He’d have decided at least one of those the other way around. That’s why they’re the greats they do it when it matters most.

On Kane and you. I still have as many questions as answers so far and I’m interested to see what happens against a real top team that presses those inverted full backs hard and high but the football had been pretty so far.
