It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

The World Cup is in the states. There’s tonnes of games in your country regardless. The final has to be in a huge iconic stadium.

If it can’t be in in LA the final should be in the Azteca as a huge stadium with a history of hosting World Cup finals in the only football nation in the bid or it should be in NY.

The rest of the games before the final due to be played in LA are kinda less relevant. They can go anywhere

So yea the white part of the US is not a footballing nation….but the rest is and those games at the Rose Bowl are usually packed with the non-white part.

It would be nice if the bigger name or top quality players would refuse to play.
Who knows what the landscape is going to look like in 2034

They're showing them on ESPN+ here....U gotta VPN? I can give u my login deets lol

Thank you! I’m not going to be able to see either tonight sadly. More that it’d be nice if sky decided to maybe give some of that domestic to money to a lower league club on a night that none of the premier league ones are playing.

Yeah I get that but it’s just a bad look so close after Russia and Qatar back to back and more presciently the whole grudome Jamal Khashoggi affair.

The only big name player I can ever remember hearing that had boycotted a tournament was Cryuff refusing to play in Argentina in 78 when it was a military junta.

Unlike going to play in a league and take the local money I do have sympathy with players in this situation. They, as a body, generally aren’t the most informed or political group and they have a very short career with one World Cup every four years. The emphasis has to be on the sports’ governance in these matters.

Just to be clear, because calling the US a non footballing nation doesn't recognize a large segment of our population where it is the primary sport. It’s often a segment that is not recognized when describing “America”.

This is not specifically aimed at Joe, but I feel like this always gets left out when discussion sports in the US.

True but equally in direct comparison to the country to the south, which is the comparison being made, the USA as a whole is not a footballing nation.

Don’t mind me just secretly replacing the LAFC propaganda in a teacher’s classroom with a picture of the Galaxy kit man wearing the 5 rings he’s gotten with the team.
