It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

At 7 he already knows better. Actually last night at dinner I fought him singing one of the Galaxy chants. I was proud!

I think if you’re lucky enough to be picked up by the academy of a professional club it becomes a potentially very lucrative career and that takes precedence. I’ve known of some pretty big Rangers fans play for Celtic and since they lifted the ban on catholics a few the other way around. And that’s a massive divide to cross.

If those religions people can’t do it I guess I can

Yea that idea was just dumb, taking their academies out of USL.

The sad part is the only pro academy team n the area of LA I live in is LAFC. I really have to send my kid to this team if he wants to play seriously 😒
Lucky enough here to have Tampa Bay United only 25 minutes from my house and St. Petersburg FC which is about 35 minutes. TBU is Rowdies affiliated so that'd be first choice obviously but we got a couple options haha his hardcore training starts in about 5 weeks which is his 2nd bday lol

The mad thing is I don’t know many people younger than my grandparents who are actually religious in terms of practicing and beliefs up there anymore. I guess mindless hate concurs secular logic…

All I’ll say is that the lad who looked like Messi on our school playground ended up as a hardworking right back peaking with Blackpool’s premier league year. Making it isn’t likely. Let the kids have fun, everything else will follow if they’re good enough and care enough.

Yea my son loves to play just because he is an active kid. It’s really just a chance to teach him something and spend some time with him.

My friend has a son who is the same age that really is obsessed. They have him in multiple training and playing sessions a week really because the kid loves it. He can’t get enough.

I do have a friend over here who played for Bolton youth teams and he’s good but not that good. I mean it’s Bolton for Christ’s sake.

Yeah you see it more in England. Dads on the sidelines shouting at kids and putting the weight of their own failed ambitions on their shoulders. This Gary Lineker piece says all you need to say about that:

suppose it depends what era Bolton. They were shit when I was a kid and they’re shit again now but they were a good solid club that brought through some decent players late 90s to mid 10s.

I think you and him are about the same age.

Yea the league I coach and my son plays in has a really good culture as far as that. The commissioner does a good job of controlling and mitigating those problems.

Yeah then Bolton would have been a top Championship (then division one) club who were occasionally yo-yoing between there and the premier league. I think it was 2001 that big sam took them up and they spent more than a decade in top flight.

Used to love it when were in a tight championship fight with arsenal at the time and they had a late season game away at Bolton.

Had no idea where it was. Looked it up no wonder they're winning. Middlesborough are beat just off the travel time!

Hahaha yeah! I think only Sunderland to Plymouth or maybe Carlisle to Southampton would be longer away days in the football league! It’s about an 8 hour drive!
