Yeah 100% its just a lot more subdued than on his standard releases.Agreed but note there is the Eastern vibe on some cuts. The title track for instance. I have the Verve Elite Edition of this because I never found an LP copy prior to the VEE series (I have all of those) that wasn't trashed. I ordered as soon as I saw the email. Dude was way ahead of his time at least from my perspective.
Agreed. Will have to spin 1984 tonight when I get home from work.People often forget that Lateef was a really strong sax player and this is a great opportunity to hear that side of him.
Strong??! Lateef was a MONSTER tenor player, with a huge tone from his King Super 20 Silversonic tenor with a metal duckbill Berg mouthpiece for the edge. He could swing like crazy but get down to the blues and bring it home like no other.Yeah 100% its just a lot more subdued than on his standard releases.
It is a killer album, I have the first UK pressing and just listened to it again. People often forget that Lateef was a really strong sax player and this is a great opportunity to hear that side of him.
Until Stoughton can get back running up to speed, nobody can predict any release dates for releases that use Stoughton.Anyone hear anything about those reissues of the Bill Evans albums '64 and '65 that were originally advertised as a January 2021 release date through Acoustic Sounds? Have all those releases been postponed due to COVID?
Mexican Ropeadope signees "Bahía de Ascenso" just released a video of a new track, which I found to be very good:
They released their debut album on vinyl last year, and there are still a couple of copies left on their Bandcamp. I don't know how the shipping rates will be to the US or Europe, but I think it's worth checking out:
Today's Bandcamp Friday, so if you haven't checked this band out yet, I think this is a good moment to do so. These guys are really some of the best jazz musicians in the country. Some of them have played with the likes of Charles Lloyd, Victor Wooten, Billy Hart and Lyle Mays, so they def have the chops, but it's really their chemistry and approach to collective improvisation that IMO makes them a really cool band.
Yazz Ahmed repress of Polyhymnia for anyone that didn't get this the first time around.
This. The new Daniel Norgren would cost my $70CDN shipped. It is pretty rare that the shipping is actually cheaper than the cost of the album.Man, I really wish Bandcamps shipping to Canada wasn't so totally bonkers...
As much as I love Yazz's music (and im sure this is a gripe which shouldn't be directed at her personally) but I get pretty annoyed when her releases have statements such as 'strictly limited to...' and 'once its gone, its gone', only to be reissued later down the line. Her sets tend to be on the pricier side as they are and I personally have been in the position where I would have waited for the price to come down had FOMO not kicked in.
With that being said she is a phenomenal musician and this is a great release.

I'm not allowed back there after the.... "incident"...Move to Australia.
This one was all sold out by the time I checked this morning. Bummed to have missed it.I might have posted this too late as there are only 6 copies available, but Binker Golding has been teasing this release for a while now and it was finally released today. He posted a few 'practice' clips on his Instagram story and its definitely an experimental release which looks to be really interesting. Heres the link:
