Jazz

I have to say I have not been blown away by the first batch of the AS series. I grabbed both Ninas (which are great), A Love Supreme (which is good, but really there are lots of just good pressings of this) and Louis/Oscar (which is a sibilant hot mess). That said I will definitely pickup up another 4-6 of the new titles as well.

Does anyone know anything about this press? And does anyone have a US link?

It did pop up here a while ago now when the pre-order came up (it might of been the pre-order thread). Not sure about the US prices but it was cheaper to buy it from Strut's K7 store (Here).

"Remastered and cut at 45 rpm over two LPs – alongside an alternative mix of the album by producer Bob Blank"
"The package includes unseen photos and extensive sleeve notes by Bob Blank, Michael Ray and Danny Ray Thompson of Sun Ra Arkestra and Tom Buchler of Philly Jazz."

For budgetary reasons I'm only getting the VMP version of the remaster for now, but I really look forward to upgrading to this down the line. It looks great, and I've generally loved what Strut has been doing with Sun Ra releases.

If anyone learns of a US-source for this, please share. I can't find a source that's not from Europe, resulting in $80+ after shipping, and that's too steep for me.

Pulled from an auction box. Needs cleaning before I spin it. Haven’t heard of McGhee before.

Wow this looks to be a super clean copy, great score!

McGhee appeared on a lot of Charlie Parker's albums, especially for Dial. There's an infamous track where Parker is so wasted that he has to be propped up against a wall. When it got to Parker's part you could hear he was about to stop and McGhee shouts 'Blow' to wake him up and get him to keep playing. They kept it in the track and released it. Parker was so furious when it was released that he threatened to burn down all the record shops that stocked it :ROFLMAO:

Listen to this around 37-38 seconds and you should hear it.

Can I just say how much I appreciate your deep knowledge of all of this and your willingness to share it with us?
