That was me.... And mine is (hopefully!) on the wayNot sure who was looking for this but i had made note of it at the time and i see it's now received a repress. Really enjoyed the music:
This came up on spotify for me and I really liked what I heard. Looks like a vinyl pressing coming soon as well.
That's a really deep rabbit hole as this is a fairly straight-ahead record....but the great news is that you should be able to find things that hit the spot. Not knowing too much about your listening, here are some good spots:So while waiting for my RSD Kenny Dorham to arrive in the mail, I decided to give it a listen on Spotify. I’m really digging this!
Anyone have recommendations of similar albums? Also, what style of jazz is this? Thanks!
Haha, that's my fear is going down another rabbit hole, as if I don't have enough records on my wantlist. That's a really deep rabbit hole as this is a fairly straight-ahead record....but the great news is that you should be able to find things that hit the spot.
As far as jazz, the stuff I've personally enjoyed is mostly jazz-funk / fusion. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy Quiet Kenny so much. So I guess I'm looking for more traditional style albums like the Kenny. Not knowing too much about your listening,
here are some good spots:
Miles Davis -- Someday My Prince will Come or the live set, My Funny Valentine ('64 or '65)
For more Kenny, while the tone is different, Uno Mas is hard to beat
My copy of Binker Golding "Moon Day" showed up today in one of those ultra flimsy UK mailers and it is just ridiculously warped. Why would you send a record in packaging like that when it needs to cross an ocean!? So bummed.
FYI, Gearbox Records Tubby Hayes at Ronnie Scott's is among the summer sale items at Mr. Bongo (for $16.99):
Modes and Blues – Vinyl LP
An excellent new album on Gearbox records. For this excursion they've unearthed a previously unreleased mono recording of 'Modes and Blues', taken from the Tubby Hayes Quintet’s weekly Ronnie Scott’s residency. Recorded on 8th February 1964 this recording captures Tubby at his finest. Vinyl...us.mrbongo.com

Oh fantastic, glad to see all the British jazz classics are getting reissues. There is a big Decca-led reissue series starting soon with some killer titles in there.Anyone heard of this label, it's on Bandcamp so I'm thinking it won't be a bootleg?
The Mike Osborne title caught my eye somewhere else & traced it back to band camp. @Selaws I suspect you might have an OG, its this worth a listen?
