Jazz

Has anyone tried and successfully pre-ordered Jackie McLean’s Destination Out from uDiscover? I’ve already tried three times and my order keeps getting cancelled immediately after it’s placed. I’ve used different payment methods, but this keeps happening.

I’m wondering if the 30% site wide discount doesn’t apply to pre-orders? If that’s the case, it seems dumb that their system allows me to pay the discounted price, only to then immediately send me a cancellation email right after the order has been placed.
I'd watch your e-mail. I tried to order the new PJ Harvey a few days ago and the same thing happened to me - they e-mailed me today to say there was a glitch that they fixed, so I should order it again and provided a voucher code for $10 off.

Geezus christ, where am I gonna find the money for all these GODDAMN JAZZ RELEASES 🤣
yea i wouldn't have gone as hard as i did on the SOV/Udiscover/Target sales if I had known AP was gonna do all these reissues right away! I did get a lot of the TPs I wanted for real cheap though...

Nothing until after the holidays for me. A Best guess is 2-3 a month on these you think ? The Trane And Rollins popped pretty damn quick. Hopepfully they are PBC.

No clue how quickly they are releasing them. It was only announced a week or so ago and already 2 popped up and look like more are imminent. People have reported that their Lightnin Hopkins prestige backorders have also started changing status. I hope they don’t do them too quickly since I won’t be able to afford them all!

I’m tempted to backorder ones I want since AS doesn’t charge until it ships but that’s a dangerous game…

Sad to read that Barry Harris has passed away. He died of COVID complications at 91 years of age.

Crazy to see all of the sessions he played on including Hank Mobley - The Jazz Message No. 2, Lee Morgan Quintet - Take Twelve, Yusef Lateef - Eastern Sounds, Donald Byrd - Byrd Jazz, Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder, Dexter Gordon - Clubhouse, Hank Mobley - The Turnaround......and thats before you even consider his own albums as lead!

Really wanted to order both but with shipping cost at about $57, and then customs on top, it would make more sense to make a bigger order (4-5 records) but that would push it to $300+ without customs and that's too spicy right now :(
you should be able to preorder other titles in the series i think? but still unsure if you order multiple items from AS if they ship when ready and charge shipping multiple times or if they just hold the items and wait to ship all at once.

I think they hold until the entire order is ready but they got a bunch of rules so i'm not sure but i think overseas buyers aren't allowed to order anything that's on Backorder.

Incoming from TheInGroove, and I can’t wait! . Has anyone else received a copy of this 2021 pressing by Sam (per Discogs, it’s their 3rd pressing)? Initial reviews on Discogs are good, and, if it’s consistent w/ my other Sam Records releases, it should be fantastic.1639095173500.png

@Selaws @Andy and well anyone that can help :) Amazingly, I will be in London 13th-21st December. It looks like I'm be be in a Marriott in Mayfair or St Ermins -- with a slight jaunt to Glasgow on the Wednesday night, returning home Thursday.

Any show recommendations?
Any spots that I can grab Brit Jazz (or other) records to haul home? :)

Grateful for any thoughts.

I've also a Saturday tomorrow to stop by my local shop if there is anything I can bring -- even to just leave at a hotel for pickup!

Thanks :)

jazzlondonlive collates a lot of the jazz gigs into a calendar which might be useful. I personally don't have any upcoming gigs planned but there is bound to be some good ones.

In terms of record shops, Soho is a great area because there are quite a few shops all in walking distance to each other (Sounds Of The Universe, Sister Ray, Reckless Records and Phonica). Outside of Soho, it's a lot more dependent on if you are in a particular area anyway as they tend to be spread out. Honest Jon's 'pop up' shop in the Coal Drops Yard (just behind Kings Cross Station) is surprisingly good for a mix of rarer and new jazz. Their larger shop at Portobello road is really good too. If you end up near Rough Trade East then Flashback records is worth walking to. There is also a shop called Yo-Yo Records which has a lot of rarer British jazz but tends to be on the pricier side, I have never been myself as its a bit out of the way but I have been wanting to go.

@Selaws is the man in the know. I couldn't add anything, if you are feeling lazy you can go straight from the record shops in Soho to Ronnie Scotts. I'm sure there will be some good shows on somewhere.

Thanks for the offer of picking something up, last weekend I would have took up on it, but I'm back in the north now.

Hope you have a fantastic time!
