Jazz

Is Chad licensing from them ?
Yep. All their reissues are licensed so a lot of the jazz stuff is licensed from concord/craft, they own the catalogues from Prestige, Contemporary, Fania, OJC, Stax…the list goes on and on. Concord/craft had a deal with AP to do a whole contemporary records reissue series (that’s what the BG cut of Way Out West) was from but Concord pulled the plug late in the game and they didn’t make it to market. The reason why Prestige series is getting repressed and contemporary record is happening is because they struck a new deal

Interesting that the 4 TP are all 2xlp. That and they changed Rough to Ruff n Tumble

Edit: just looked closer at the picture, looks like the catalogue was copy edited by Storf. The actual album clearly says Rough

Don’t think this was shared yet but this was in the MD catalogue. Kinda hope the new TPs aren’t 45s…

The "2LP" is strange. I'm betting it's a typo. The couple of 2LPs they've done (Cassandra Wilson - Glamoured and the three-sided Andrew Hill - Passing Ships are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head) have been significantly higher priced, and these are all listed at the single-disc MSRP.

Yup my thinking is someone saw "gatefold" in the write-up and went "well all double albums are gatefolds so that means all these are double lps"

Joe Harley confirmed on Reddit it’s a typo. Phew. 1LPs. The info on Ornette was correct though

So Chad & Craft ?. Very cool! I might come up with a wish list for shits a giggles later tonight. Anyone else up ?
I can say one thing about my Contemprary wish list - nothing in the trailer is on it. Just a bunch of stuff done to death by now.

And actually I can say a second thing! Chad has never heard of any titles that could be on my wish list!

The Teddy Edwards and Curtis Counce I would buy. Any Teddy Edwards actually, but I doubt Chad has heard of him, or that Craft would be interested.

The Contemporary catalog is relatively slim, and very straight ahead jazz. Teddy Edwards and the two Prince Lasha are standouts.

It got more interesting in the 70's. Chico Freeman, Joe Farrell, Joe Henderson, George Cables and Benny Golson did great records then.

The monster on Contemporary is from the 70's, Art Pepper At The Village Vanguard, 3 LP set which will not get redone! By that era, Art's playing had elevated to such a level that, in comparison, his 50's records seem like the playing of a good high school student.

I’d love a nice box set of the Manne at the Black Hawk albums. I’m kinda hoping Craft do some of their own releases and not just through Chad

Saw some more details about the Gerry Mulligan Night Lights KG reissue coming out. Reads as if it might be digital source but that doesn’t bother me a ton since boom boom is at the helm.

  • Printed & Pressed at Pallas on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a deluxe reverse-board jacket.
  • Mastered from the original analog tape transfers by Kevin Gray
  • 12” insert featuring rare photographs and words from Bill Crow
  • Includes rare bonus track ’Night Lights - 1965 Version’
  • Officially licensed from Phillips / UMG with thanks to the Mulligan Estate
A bit confused about the release date? I think it’s out already but also heard release got pushed back. Anybody happen to get a copy yet?
