Jazz

So this was a cool interaction. Matt Parker (of Jazz In Britain and now British Progressive Jazz) set up a Facebook page where people have been sharing their favourite British jazz albums. I put up a picture of Ray Russell's fantastic 1968 album "Turn Circle" and Ray ended up commenting with a bit of a behind the scenes info on the session. Very cool.

This is so good!

Thank you for sharing!! Skerik is one of my favorite musicians. I’ve seen him live more than 100 times in most of his many different bands (incl diff iterations of GAT), incl some of the one-offs that exist only in New Orleans for Jazz Fest.

Critters Buggin‘ is a top 5 all-time favorite band of mine. I didn’t know about this GAT KEXP show.

Wow! That's a lot of shows.

I've seen Skerik just a handful of times when he played with Claypool, but always been a fan. This KEXP set is just hitting the right spot for me tonight. And those soundscapes he makes with his pedaled sax is always fun. Just a great, underrated and creative musician.

For Oscar Peterson fans, this 6xLP box set gets rave reviews, and the price is right at the moment:

I can't comment on the pressings/set itself, but the music is fantastic. The series is actually my favourite from Peterson.

There is quite an interesting story behind them as well, how he befriended Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (head/founder of MPS) and was convinced to record these intimate sessions, and how they made them in secret and released them later after his contractual obligations to another label were finished.

Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer also had the good sense to record Bill Evans' iteration of his trio with Jack DeJohnette and Eddie Gomez which is a revelatory if short-lived version of the group.

I love the dynamics of the MPS late 60's recordings.

Maybe not official release, I have the MPS analog box from 2014, but this says label is The Orchard?? Lot of dollars for for a boot.

I have this set -- it's really well done and the sound quality is great

Anyone have stories of Acoustic Sounds deliveries that you never received where they ended up making it right? I've never had an issue before, but feel like this situation isn't going to end well. What happened was I ordered two records and they were delivered, but not to the right address. It was a day where I got a bunch of packages and received all of them except the Acoustic Sounds. AS used FedEx and the rest were not. What I believe happened was they were delivered to the wrong address and even though I checked around several places where they possibly could be, they never turned up. It has now been a month since they said they would file a claim with FedEx and let me know and also several days since I followed up to ask if they'd heard anything. I don't have high hopes for seeing the records or my $77, but news of good outcomes from others in the past would help!

Don’t know if this is new news so sorry if I repeat but TVG podcast episode 322 is interviewing Lev Feldman. At about the 49 min mark, Lev indicated he is involved with 5 RSD titles. No specifics but he name dropped several including a new Bill Evans, Chet Baker, & a Mingus.

Great interview/episode.

I always assumed their substantial shipping fees to cover FedEx shipping served the purpose of protecting against losses like this. I'd be surprised if they weren't willing to work with you, though I agree it's not a great sign that you haven't had definitive action yet.

And the size of that box or just the one record I got this weekend was huge!
