Jazz

FYI, Carolina Soul put a few hundred Lew Keck jazz LPs on its discogs site:

Lots of signed copies that come with a ticket stub, etc.
Wanted to say thanks for sharing this, got a few neat signed copies for very little!

For some background for others Lew Keck was a massive Jazz aficionado in central NC. He collected for decades. Carolina Soul bought his collection at some point recently, though he passed away in 2008.

He was well known to linger around after Jazz shows and collect signatures from all those he saw. The super rare signatures and such were auctioned off on Ebay but there's still some neat stuff here. Ticket stubs and concert programs are included with some of them as well.

Link to obituary about his life: Lewis G. Keck Obituary (2008) The News & Observer

At the end of the day it's up to you to decide if signature amd concert programs add value, but it's a neat collection to skim through.

Love that Jobim record. I have the speakers corner pressing and it’s great
I listen to the digital all the time so the vinyl was on my list, and I didnt want to miss another one like the Barney Wilen (which is also on the way finally) :ROFLMAO: 10,000HZ had it cheaper but there free ship is over $100

If I can find that Satchmo @Ghost did next by some miracle I might call it a day for a while after my Paladin list is done! ☺️

the Satchmo plays King oliver? I was really surprised that In Groove found some of those. They seemed to be LONG OOP. I'll keep my eye out for ya.

Little steep to Canada with shipping and exchange but looks like a sweet little 'zine.

This is right up my street, thanks for sharing. If anyone sees a copy in the UK please let me know!

So this was new to me today and really dig it, so I bought a couple of her releases on Bandcamp Friday. Recommended and thanks @Andy for posting!

Her previous album La Saboteuse is superb, but the vinyl pressing was very ordinary, I didn't get that new one on vinyl, but the CD's were definitely better sounding and value .
I agree, Yazz is fantastic!

Im lucky enough to have all her releases to date and while they are certainly on the pricey side, the packages tend to be really good (the artwork is stunning) and the records sound great!

The prices have kept her off my shelf so far, but I should really fix that. She's fantastic.
It's pretty crazy prices really. Although it does seem like they have also shot up in value as well on the secondary market. My advice would be to wait for the deals unless you have a real urge to get them.

I paid full price for Polyhymnia (the fancy tri-colour limited set) and Shoal Of Souls and kind of regretted it as it was a lot of money. On the flip side I bought the limited edition version of La Saboteuse for just £18 on ebay when no one else bid for it.

I had tickets to see her live which would have been amazing but then the pandemic hit and it was cancelled, maybe she will set up something again soon which would be great.

La Saboteuse is definitely the one I want the most. But anything I've seen that even resembled a reasonable price became quickly unreasonable with shipping to Canada so she's still a streamer around here. I hope you get the chance to catch her live eventually. Dead Can Dance was the concert the pandemic killed for me. I'm still a little sour about it.

Looking likely that AP is gonna do a Contemporary Records series starting in May…Chad mentioned doing a new jazz series with Bernie and we already know a Bernie cut of Way Out West is on its way. Plus it being the 70th anniversary of contemporary….
This will be separate from the Craft Contemporary Series ?

On the subject of magazines, I very highly recommend the newish We Jazz record label magazine, which has published two issues and a third is on the way in March. Here’s a screen cap from Dusty Groove’s site, which I’m copying bc the description is very good. It’s more like a small book than a magazine. Very high quality presentation, and the writing has been great so far. I’ve ordered all of mine from Europe, which has meant unfortunately high shipping prices to the U.S. But Dusty Groove gets small inventory, and I think In Sheeps Clothing puts up a few copies, so there are options in the U.S., but I haven’t caught them at the right time.

The articles go well beyond the main cover piece. Issue 1 cover was Alice Coltrane, here’s John on 2, and Joe Henderson is the cover piece for issue 3.

Their Bandcamp was prohibitively expensive to Canada - basically $50/issue. It does look fantastic, though!

I hope I can start picking them up on future issues and maybe find used copies of the early ones somewhere down the line. I'm also really hoping to find a used copy of Sound American's Sun Ra issue from a year or two ago that I discovered after physical copies were sold out!

I love knowing these things are in print at all though, even if limited so limited. I know from personal experience that print media publishing is trickier now than ever to sustain as people go more digital, but I'll always be a big fan of these kinds of journals and magazines (and literary ones too!)
