I just want to thank the N&Gers who recommended it. It popped up on pop.market discog's store for $24 a few days ago and just listened to it and the reviews are accurate -- great pressing and sound quality.

So FYI, if you don't have it, put it on your wantlist on discogs because I would guess more copies may appear on pop.market again soon.

i believe thats the one mentioned in the repress thread! plaidroom has sold out of the regular copies but has damaged copies for around $22. their "damaged" copies have always been great for me. i often can't even tell what's damaged about it.

@zdkaiser @JohnnyCashFan no one step announcement today. they just announced the AS series officially.

We are very proud to announce the Contemporary Records Acoustic Sounds series, which begins with six album releases from the Contemporary Records catalog, celebrating 70 years of the legendary jazz label.

Beginning on May 13th with the release of Art Pepper + Eleven: Modern Jazz Classics, the series also includes Barney Kessel, Shelly Manne, Ray Brown – The Poll Winners (6/10), Hampton Hawes, Barney Kessel, Shelly Manne, Red Mitchell – Four! (7/15), Benny Carter – Jazz Giant (8/12), Shelly Manne & His Friends – My Fair Lady (9/9), and Art Pepper – Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section (11/11).

Each title, originally engineered by Roy DuNann and/or Howard Holzer, features all-analog mastering from the original tapes by legendary engineer Bernie Grundman (himself a former employee of the label), and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings (QRP) and presented in a Stoughton Old Style Tip-On Jacket.

Hi-Res Digital (96/24 and 192/24) and CraftRecordings.com exclusive SACD formats of each title will also be made available on the same dates as each LP release.

It's about time we get some decent, readily available reissues of some West Coast jazz.

It's not really a "hot take" but I often state that Art Pepper is massively underrated despite being an incredible musician, especially in his prime. I'm fortunate enough to have a great first pressing of "Meets The Rhythm Section" but I will definitely be interested in "Art Pepper + Eleven – Modern Jazz Classics".

Hopefully, they are easy to get and affordable over here in the UK. It's rarely the case but my fingers are crossed!

i believe @Andy said they are on Amazon.co.uk. These should be pretty widely available! Does Craft still have a UK site?

....This is why I try to avoid this thread. I accidentally clicked on it and now I've got a (damaged) Saxophone Colossus on the way, along with several other records from Plaid Room. 💸

I empathize, but that Saxophone Colussus is absolutely worth whatever suffering comes with spending the money! As has been mentioned by many others, it’s really, really good.

I grabbed one as well. @Plaidroom confirmed in the other thread it's Boom Boom mastered but does not have the QRP sticker. Looking forward to it. Maybe we will see Way Out West also one day ?

Well, if it’s Grundman mastered, then I have to retract my comment bc I have this KG/SH version that someone on N&G (probably MikeH) posted a link to sometime last year. Not saying the Grundman doesn’t sound as good or better bc I can’t say anything about it! Then again, I also can’t find a Grundman mastered Sax. Colossus on Discogs, so maybe there’s a mistake somewhere?

We will definitely see Way Out West. The contemporary series will continue past these 6 titles. Fremer confirmed it:

Chad was supposed to do 25 titles from Contemporary, 25 from Pablo and 25 from Fantasy I think (can’t remember the third label). All three series got pulled by concord back in 2015. Hoping these others all get released too.

Also wondering if Bernie had already cut these albums years ago or if they are new cuts?

Is there a good, affordable pressing of The Bridge out there btw ?

Two of the titles have been available on a few UK sites for around a year. Craft doesn't generally have great distribution in the UK, but it's probably getting better. I do expect them to be available in the UK, but not sure how many copies & how cheap.
