Jazz

For anyone who might be into Japanese pressings and Bill Evans, Record City Japan has several of his records listed today that look to be in great shape (the link leads to all of the Japan pressings of jazz records listed as arriving today):

why are you like this
what did my wallet do to you

CONFESSION: I have never (knowingly) listened to Bill Evans.
you're better off not starting.

although.

as an example, when the box set was announced, i was like who would ever need this much bill evans in their life

and then zdkaiser posted it and i'm kicking myself for not spending the money on it

and then you find yourself going well do i need the box set, what if i just buy every record individually nah who would do that

and then someone's like oh hey record city just posted jazz records and you hear your wallet crying from the next room over

i will say, some of the ones I briefly saw posted have some cheaper US versions that still sound solid. if you aren't against 45, the craft reissue of You Must Believe in Spring is really killer.

seems to be from digital but very interested to find out more about this one...also seems legit and not grey-market? available at Target too

Yeah, one of these days I'll get around to it - I certainly haven't gone out of my way not to thus far, it's just kinda played out that way. Which seems funny given how beloved is.
I was well aware of Evans before I started hanging out with the gang around here, but I did not know he was a big deal. I mean outside of Jazz heads, he ain't a Miles or Coltrane level figure that is a household name

Third Man pressed it, so its a crap shoot. Still preordered because I NEEDZ it.

The new McCraven album has me really on a jazz kick (especially considering it came out at the same time as the new Comet is Coming and I just got Sun Ship and have been exploring Pharoah Sander's work). I've taken a deep dive in his catalog. I had never listened to this before:

Above & Beyond knocked my socks off. It's like a futuristic jazz score to a Rocky movie and I'M FUCKING HERE FOR IT.
