Jazz

Just a warning that a load of spirtual jazz releases are due up on Superfly this afternoon if they stick to their plan (I'm travelling so am going to miss) Superfly Records - Bossa, MPB, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Afro, Tropical, Disco
I had a look through them as well. Worth mentioning that the prices seem to be on the high side this time. Out of all the ones I looked at I could get the same or higher rated condition on Discogs for less.

Looks like they do have a cool Sun Ra with hand drawn label if you have €350 lying around.

Just thought I would share this. I was given this 5lp box set from BBE after they forgot to send my copy of 'Earth Mother' and I couldn't contact them. It was a great apology as the record I was waiting for cost me £25 (which they sent with the box set) while the box set cost £85 at the time! Its been sat on my shelf for 8 months until I finally found the time to set aside and listen to the whole thing today.

Its a great example of a box set done well. 5 heavyweight records covering over 2 and a half hours of live hard-bop / avant-garde music. A replica poster advertising the 1973 show. A double-sided liner note sheet covering each track. A 12-page 12x12 booklet covering more information, session photos etc. All housed in a thick matte box. Really superb stuff.

I thoroughly recommend picking it up if Mingus is your kind of musician, and since it was first released its dropped to become super affordable. I saw a sealed copy on discogs for £35 which is a downright steal for the amount you get!

I don’t think it was originally that high(55) . I got one quite a few years ago on a 20% off sale I think. But I’ sure the retail was under $50 at that time.
Saw a record store owner imply that a repress was coming of the AP Love Supreme. I feel like I remember seeing it priced at $75. I'm hoping that was the "we're almost out" price. Anyone know what it retailed for originally?

Strongly seconding this. Not only is it a boxed set "done right" as you say, but the performances are incredible!

Did anyone here pull the trigger on that Chet box set? Looks like Plaid Room still has the cheapest price rn at $119 w free shipping. Has anyone seen it for cheaper somewhere? Wasn’t initially into the albums but have been streaming the collection on Spotify today all day and been loving it. Beautiful mellow jazz that my fiance is really enjoying as well! That’s always a plus. Just wish there was another album in the set that had Chet singing!

Just came home from a great night. A few weeks ago I discovered that there's basically right around the corner a little live venue, that has Jazz and also some Blues live shows. Today I was able to witness Valery Ponomarev and his Quintet. Some real great Jazz live, including lot's Art Blakey's classics, since Valery used to be one of the Jazz Messengers.

The show was really great, tiny, but very comfy venue. It definitely won't be my last show there. On one hand I'm so glad I discovered this joint, on the other hand I'm kind of pissed, what great shows might I have missed in the past. It is just a few miles away from me, here in the austrian country side.

If anyone's interessted, it is called "Cafe Museum" in Passau, Germany.

Fuck it I bought it. This is my second ever box set besides Fleet Foxes First Collection. Stoked!

If you want another album where Chet Baker sings, keep an eye out for Chet Baker Sings which will be released as part of the tone poet series next year.

Interesting. Has anyone purchased a release from this label? I know Pure Pleasure is in its own league, but if this reissue is anywhere near in quality I'm in.

Sounds great so far, really quiet vinyl free of any ticks or pops, nice clear sonics. Good stuff, would be happy to recommend.

Sorry, clearly in a Chet Baker hole lol. I kind of get obsessed with a genre artist by artist and looks like it’s time for Mr. Born To Be Blue. Wanted to share this performance with you guys, stumbled upon it last night and found it to be remarkably beautiful. Enjoy!
