July 2020 Record Challenge (The Raffle Strikes Back)

Day 24 - DON'T FORGET THE EAR PLUGS

The White Stripes - De Stijl (Third Man Records, 2020 VMP Essentials Pressing)

Today's challenge seems like a good reason to spin this one again. I personally really like this pressing, its an album I have been meaning to pick up for a while now so this came at a great time.

Day 24 - DON'T FORGET THE EAR PLUGS: Play something LOUD

The Black Keys - El Camino

I played The Black Keys earlier in the challenge, but had to play this one here too. When I'm looking to crank it up and fill the house with music, this is a go to for sure!

Was this the one that came with the sticker that said "PLAY LOUD" (or something like that)?

24 - LOUD

26 years old and still gets me every time. Probably have played this at least 6 times a year every single year since it came out (and lots more in those first 5 years or so). My kids roll eyes at my air guitar and terrible vocals that I can’t help but sing anytime this one plays. Also, according to me, Courtney was only smeared because she had the balls to speak out against the abuses of the industry.

Play something LOUD
Motörhead - Ace Of Spades ♠️

The Variety Theatre in Cleveland was a venue designed by architect Nicola Petti in the Spanish Gothic style. The beautiful venue was no match for Lemmy and what he described as Motörhead’s “loud, fast, raucous, speed-freak rock’n’roll”. When the band played there in December 1984, they were measured at 130 decibels. The music was so loud the vibrations cracked the ceiling and plaster came down on the crowd. The power had to be cut to stop the band from continuing to play.

Day 21:
A rap/hip-hop album:
Brockhampton - GINGER
some real sad boy hours up in here 😢

Day 22:
A chill album:
Shlohmo - Bad Vibes
I had never heard of this album before VMP did an exclusive of it. Had to say I was really sucked into this guys soundscapes and chill vibes.

Day 23:
An album with experimental elements
Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
Anyone remember when Tyler went on his twitter to warn people not to expect a “rap” album? Well, he was right. This is more like, soul and R&B mixed with hardcore rap elements.

Day 24:
A LOUD album:
TBD
I’m waiting for something to ship to my house and will come back to this:devilish:

(Getting ahead)
Day 25:
A short album:
Kids See Ghosts - S/T
I really hope Cudi and Kanye do another album, hearing their ideas bounce off of each other is really something on this one.

I can’t not blast this when the first guitar notes of Somebody to Shove kicks in. Apologies to my neighbors for jumping around the apartment like an idiot. *edit to add* "Nothing attracts a crowd, like a crowd" is one of my all time favorite lyrics!

JULY 24
DON'T FORGET THE EAR PLUGS
Play something LOUD

Atlantean Kodex - The Course of Empire

There should be a minimum volume required to play this album. Also, it should only be played at max volume in large ornate buildings like cathedrals or maybe tombs. Also, it should only be played LOUD, in cathedrals, at dusk. Also, it should only be played LOUD, in cathedrals, at dusk, while wearing druid robes.

Blow ye trumpets in thy walls Sound an alarm to mountain halls
Tremble all ye who have heard the call For another kingdom falls

Day 24: DON'T FORGET THE EAR PLUGS
Play something LOUD
Big Black - Headache 12"
When I was going through my collection to pull items this month for the challenge, today reminding me of seeing Shellac live. They were very loud. In front of the stage was a guy wearing ear plugs. Between songs, Rob Weston reached out and pulled the plugs out of the guys ears and said "if I have to go deaf playing this shit, then you have to go deaf listening to it." One of the best shows ever. I was exhausted by the end of it.
