June 2019 Vinyl Challenge

I've always wondered if that's because of the way/place it was recorded.
My understanding is it’s in the master.
You might have already heard this at some point, but try to track down an original US Monarch or Canadian "Kinney Music" pressing, even if it's just VG condition. I have the Canadian one, it's an absolute revelation.
I believe that’s what @HiFi Guy said. I know the vinyl of the deluxe remix sucked a while back, but I actually fell in love with the album all over again with the digital of that. People were as mixed on that as they were Songs from Big Pink last year. I actually teared up during my first listen of the Pink remix.

I am sooooo behind, but I guess I'll start anyway.
Day 1 - Who Are You?
Welcome to the June challenge! Play a record from your go-to genre

My go-to genre is one I call "Vaguely Twangy." Not strictly country or Americana, though those definitely fall into the category, but that twang might be the guitar tone, a vocal quality, a banjo, a mandolin, or none of those things and just strike me a way. But Heartless Bastards are one of my favorite bands and I think it's Erika Wennerstrom's voice that really lands them in my made-up genre.

Love this band so much! Saw Erika Wennerstrom on her solo tour a few months ago when she came through town.

Day 10 (Catch up) - Perfect Album

Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear

There are only 2 album that I say are perfect. The first is Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and then this

This album changed me as a music lover and as a person. Before this I pretty much only listened to radio alternative rock then this album came along and introduced me to a whole new world of music. And its themes of love helped me through some of my worst years. I cant put into words how much this recorda means to me and I feel like I'm just rambling lol

Day 7 - Should You Have That?

I’ve two Grateful Dead promos. Terrapin Station and From The Mars Hotel. This one I’m a little more proud of. Sounds incredible to boot.

Oh, and anyone not impressed with Garcia’s songwriting skills please check out “Terrapin Station” from this album.
Masterful.

Day 9 - The Obligatory Jazz Sunday Category

Well, here’s where my whole obsession with Shorter began. And man, this album is on par with all those of his held in high regard. Everyone is on fire but Herbie is on some next level playing.

Was just thinking about how “Etcetera” sounds like something off of Miles Smiles. “Penelope” is absolutely gorgeous. “Toy Tune” is fun and then Side B is perfection.

So what have we learned from all of this?it’s that If you don’t have this Tone Poet and are interested in the Tone Poet series—get this!

Day 2 - Off and Running
I've never listened to her first album, but this might be my favorite of 2019.
And I'm combining this with
Day 3 - You Move Me
The way she sings "I guess it's just my life and it's just my body" wrecks me. There are big, dramatic vocal performances out there that move me, of course, but the quiet verses in some of these songs just tear out my heart.
Julia Jacklin - Crushing
(I could almost play this for day 10 too)

Day 12 - Those Were the Days
Sometimes a song can take us back to really specific times in life.
For today, play an album that features a song that brings up a sweet memory from your past.

In December of 1985 I was listening to a "new wave" program on a radio station out of western North Carolina. The material was what you'd consider pedestrian for a locally produced program in WNC. Then something totally unexpected happened - I heard a song that was quite unlike anything else on the air at the time. It had nice pop sensibilities and sugary melodies but, in an unusual fashion, they were buried beneath a wall of distortion and feedback. Think The Beach Boys with black hearts and fuzz pedals. This whole melding of pop perfection and unbridled distortion made me a fan for life.

The Reids never made another record quite as extreme as Psychocandy but it remains one of my musical epiphanies.

Day 12 Those wore (these are) the days

I used to listen to this record a lot when I started dating the girl who would become my wife.
Today is Valentine's day in Brazil so it seems fitting, we've been together for 20 years, last month was our 15th wedding anniversary.
I'm happy and grateful and this record is making me tear up a little.
