The Claypool Lennon Delirium – South Of Reality

Fathering Sean may well be my favourite thing John did. Collaborating with Les is definitely my favourite thing Sean has done. I really hope we see a new one from these guys this year!

I really like this album. Got to see em' tour this! Ironically, Willie Nelson's kid's band opened the show.

January 17: Lou Reed

Lou Reed
was crucial in shaping the landscape of rock music with his influential work as the frontman for The Velvet Underground. His songwriting, characterized by gritty realism and poetic lyricism, challenged conventional norms and explored taboo subjects. Reed's solo career further showcased his versatility, from the iconic "Transformer" album to experimental ventures. His impact on alternative rock and his fearless approach to artistic expression solidify Lou Reed's lasting legacy in the music industry.

“Music should come crashing out of your speakers and grab you, and the lyrics should challenge whatever preconceived notions that listener has.” - Lou Reed

You know what to do!
I am not well versed in Lou Reed's full discography. However, I've been listening to "New Sensations" and the bass is phenomenal. I know this album is not regarded very high. Are there any other albums (VU or solo) that have this caliber of bass? I assume it would have to have Fernando Saunders on it. TIA!

January 23: Freddie Mercury

IMG_9514.jpg

Freddie Mercury
, born Farrokh Bulsara, was a British singer, songwriter, and the flamboyant frontman of the legendary rock band Queen. Born in Zanzibar in 1946, Mercury's unique vocal range and powerful stage presence made him an iconic figure in the music industry. His ability to seamlessly blend rock, opera, and pop genres set Queen apart from other bands of their time. One of his biggest accomplishments was the creation of timeless anthems, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," a groundbreaking song that defied musical conventions and became a cultural phenomenon. The operatic and multi-tracked masterpiece showcased Mercury's vocal versatility and established Queen as a trailblazing force in the world of rock music.

Mercury's impact extended beyond his musical talents. As an openly gay artist during a time when it was less common, he challenged societal norms and became a symbol of LGBTQ+ empowerment. His unapologetic approach to his identity paved the way for greater acceptance in the music industry and beyond. Despite facing personal struggles, including his battle with AIDS, Mercury continued to create music until his passing in 1991. His legacy endures through Queen's continued influence on contemporary music, with their songs remaining popular and iconic. Freddie Mercury's contribution to the world of music and his fearless authenticity have left an indelible mark on the hearts of fans worldwide, solidifying his status as one of the greatest and most beloved performers in rock history.

First we had the King of Rock, then the Queen of Rock, and now.. Queen! Another one of my favorites. Freddie was a true legend. Spin something today by Queen, an artist that was a part of Live Aid 85', or any other artist that this card inspires.

Band of Gypsys is one that I just never got around to buying - but that just changed.

Seems like the current 2020 pressing is a repress of the 1997 Classic Records release.

And what I just got today from Amazon wasn't the US release I thought it was going to be -

Is is the European colored variant - pressed at Record Industry, so not the Classic Records repress I was actually hoping for.

Reviews are still positive, though. And it has the same "All-Analogue" sticker.

January 22: John Lennon

I had planned to spin the Revolver box set for one of these days whenever a Beatle popped up - but I was scooped. Perhaps there's another in the stack of cards??? My box is still not even opened after I bought it over a year ago....this last year my record listening dropped waaay off.

In searching my collection for "Lennon" - I didn't realize this release was OOP and going for as much as it is - it's not huge, and a median value of $83.54 is off my usual "most valuable in collection" posts, but I didn't think this new mix was well received enough to warrant a price of this much. But it's The Beatles I suppose.

I like this new mix, as it's a nice compliment to the mono pressing from the box.

Queen was one of the first bands i really loved and when i heard the news of Freddie passing on the news in the car radio teenage me was shocked. Still nowadays i only have the two greatest hits albums and this on vinyl and it probably won't be much more in the future. Experts will notice the meticulously spaced lettering on the cover of this version
