Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

A little Maggie observation/update.

1st off, really loving these speakers. I've been listening a lot while working, I sit approx. 15' away and the sound has been wonderful, last night I had a chance to sit in my "critical" listening spot and while most of what I've heard about the Maggie's is they sound best at a distance, I found my listening triangle to be really pleasant. The panels do an amazing job of wrapping you in sound and you really do feel like you're sitting at in intimate venue.

For the numbers people, 3' from the wall, angled forward, straight on, no toe in, panels 5' apart and I'm sitting dead center 5' away. Nothing but positives all around so far.

Is speaker positioning the same for the 15' listening position? I find with my Harbeths that the closer listening is enhanced by a bit of a toe-in.

I started with a bit of toe in at 15', and as I kept adjusting, it pretty much took all the toe in away. In a sitting position these seem to shine being upright and straight on.

Maggies project sound so differently from typical speaker designs that you really can’t approach their positioning in the same way. They emit front and back, and from the entire surface of the membrane, with none of the sharp directionality you get from cones or especially horns.

You definitely have to take "common" speaker thoughts out of your head. It's still odd to walk up right in front of the speaker and not really hear the full sound right there, if the surface was a cylinder my head could probably wrap itself around the concept better, lol.

It was supposed to be delivered yesterday (literally 24 hours after ordering), but I wasn't at home. Super impressed with the quick shipping
I was initially worried to order from them because of the generic name but I was impressed too! The open box prices were best I saw of a few items.

So I’ve been scratching my beard and wondering for a while:

“These Linton’s dig really low but I wonder, I wonder, is there a magic extra 5% out there that I can find to just really make the bass more defined”

So I went and chatted to the audio dealer today and I’ve ordered something. They talked me out of the more expensive REL saying that they were too much for the Linton’s which already dig deep, and said this would be the best option. It’s also nice and compact because I have very little space to play with!

I’ll report back when it arrives, they only had high gloss black in stock today and that doesn’t vibe with my style, the white is on order!

I run a sub with my Forte IIs, so you can probably guess where I sit on this.

Hahaha! Yeah! It was important to me to get as musical a sub as possible, it is more definition than boom or thump that I’m after, so, from their reputation it was always going to be a REL if I went that way. Plus I needed a high level input because the PrimaLuna power amp and PS Audio pre amp don’t have sub outs. I was pleasantly surprised that they talked me out of the two more expensive options (T7x and T5x) that I’d gone in there having looked at and expecting to order. If I like it I may look to get a second as a stereo pair down the road, would still be less of an outlay than one T7x!
