Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

So I’ve been scratching my beard and wondering for a while:

“These Linton’s dig really low but I wonder, I wonder, is there a magic extra 5% out there that I can find to just really make the bass more defined”

So I went and chatted to the audio dealer today and I’ve ordered something. They talked me out of the more expensive REL saying that they were too much for the Linton’s which already dig deep, and said this would be the best option. It’s also nice and compact because I have very little space to play with!

I’ll report back when it arrives, they only had high gloss black in stock today and that doesn’t vibe with my style, the white is on order!

I have this little guy paired with some Kef LS50's on my PC setup. It digs deep and is incredibly articulate and fast paced. I was legit taken back how good it is. REL is top notch you'll love it.

Hahaha! Yeah! It was important to me to get as musical a sub as possible, it is more definition that boom or thump that I’m after, so, from their reputation it was always going to be a REL if I went that way. Plus I needed a high level input because the PrimaLuna power amp and PS Audio pre amp don’t have sub outs. I was pleasantly surprised that they talked me out of the two more expensive options (T7x and T5x) that I’d gone in there having looked at and expecting to order. If I like it I may look to get a second as a stereo pair down the road, would still be less of an outlay than one T7x!
I've considered an REL as a potential replacement for my SVS, should it ever crap out, but the form factors don't work well for my space.

It really sucks that none of SVS' current cylinder line include high-level inputs.

Interesting, I was told the same when researching possible subs for the LRSs so they're on my list along with a @HiFi Guy recommendation

I'm curious how it works out for you, the LRS don't go as deep as the Linton's, but they have really nice bass, I'm still kind of back and forth as I listen to these and let them burn in more, there are times I want to get one, but then there are times I'm listening that I'm like, nah, no need, lol.

We'll see...........hope it meets your expectations :)

Cheers! This is very much a I know this isn’t going to make a monsterous difference but I’m hoping it’s going like “the rug” in the system that ties it all together if you get my drift. Considering that it’s over €100 less than the cartridge I’m currently running it’s not the most bank busting move either and does give some wiggle room to try a stereo pair down the line if I like it. Yeah the high level input, RELs reputation and the fact that they’re made in Wales definitely all tugged me in that direction. Part of me would like to get as much European gear as possible in my system going forward.

Completely understand, it's one of those "cherry on top" kind of additions ;)

Nice! I've got the REL T/7i with my Harbeths and it's a divine combination. Cheers to that 5%!

I know it sounds ridiculous, because its likely ridiculous, but I feel like my hardware buying days are about up.. the two tables and their respective carts do everything I could want.. the VPI 16.5 is an absolute game changer and I'm annoyed I didn't get one a while ago.. streaming using the BlueSound Node thru the Luxman DAC is great too. I feel the same, although I’m itchy for a Technics SL-1210G.

Getting to a point of ultimate gear happiness is a wonderful place in life. Enjoy the music!

I’m almost to that point.
I’d like to get a new CD player, Streamer and eventually get my Pioneer table fixed.
It’s a nice feeling.

So! Look what arrived! A little white box that hides behind one of the Lintons.

I’m really impressed. This thing isn’t boomy or “a scaly’s boot bass cannon” sounding at all and that was my sub fear! It just goes lower and is more defined. The whole system just sounds better and it’s almost impossible to tell where the Lintons end and it begins!

I’ve also been reconverted to Ultra Linnear on my PL after months of triode listening, the sub just seems to add so much more in that mode!

Sorry for the shit photos, it really is jammed in behind the speakers and isn’t easy to photograph!

I've got two subs, one in each setup. I have a Costco-sourced Klipsch 12" ported in for use with the KEF LS50's and a 15" sealed Definitive I got from an estate sale which goes with the Thiel CS6's. Not as picky about my subs as my mains. Both work just fine in each setup.

I did find the 15" Definitive was too big to work well in my smallish office; I needed something that would have less output with small woofer excursions. I could never tune down the 15" to work well there - the 12" is much better.

So the more I’m listening the more I’m utterly converted to subs, or more particularly these REL subs with their high level input direct from the amps speaker terminals. Not only is the bass better but the soundstage is deeper and it feels like by taking over the sub bass duties from the Lintons it has opened up their mids and highs and the whole thing is just sparkling. At €389 this thing was an absolute bargain (given the list price is £449 and my dealer has it listed as the previous mk2 on their website I may have unknowingly benefited from an acideal..) and I am absolutely going to be getting a second to make a stereo pair at some point down the line!
