Play something from your childhood or teenage years

My wife recently asked me how I came to know Peter Gabriel’s music. While it was ubiquitous in the So cycle, I don’t ever not remember knowing Gabriel (although it was a much longer time before I realized he had been in Genesis - whom I first knew from their Self Titled album). It was the first music I remember thinking of as my own. Gabriel has been a constant always. My parents weren’t into him, but some of my earliest musical memories are him. Not sure why. He’s also been a source of various excursions too. Real World was a big gateway to international music (especially not African as that really was driven by Mr Simon) and the production from Fripp here caused me to explore King Crimson in middle school (though I didn’t spend that much time with it).

Boy did I overthink this one…. Coldplay was my favorite band in the before era…. Before I deeply cared about music era lol. Speed Of Sound and Talk still resonate with me today.

Before I started buying my own albums, I listened to my sister's collection. She's four years older and I was introduced to a lot of great stuff that I still love.

My still cat-loving sisters record collection was a big influence on me too in the 70s. This one always makes me think of her, looking forward to seeing her in a few weeks.

An album inspired by his indigenous roots, with the album’s title, Baca Sewa, coming from his original family name prior to Spanish colonization (according to the notes about this album on Daptone’s website).
