March 22: Metal Monday. Play some metal. \m/

I worked Sunday and Monday nights....took Tuesday off because of a migraine. It's getting a bit better now. Enough to play this one.

I've changed this a few times in my list...and kept thinking about this album since my Ides Of March post - this is one that I just haven't given a lot of time to. I was OK with Metallica not really being Metallica anymore. I get they were getting back to their old selves with this one.

As for this vinyl release, I honestly can't really hear the dynamic range issues the CD had. This vinyl release also doesn't have the Ted Jensen/Sterling Mastering credit the CD has. But I don't know if this is better than the infamous Guitar Hero tracks. I have the CD, but I can't remember the last time I played it.

March 24: National Cocktail Day - Play an album to drink to....or just drink and play something you like.

Back when I went to bars with some former co-workers - like 10+ years ago - we used to shoot pool and drink and play any and all Dio on the jukebox. Usually Holy Diver would be played in full at some point, but we also played whatever other Dio they had available, since it was a streaming jukebox, it had a lot available. I started to play some from this album even as we met up less and less.

This is the Sabbath line-up for the "Mob Rules" and "Dehumanizer" albums - ironically not "Heaven & Hell" which Bill Ward was still in the band until the tour of that album and replaced with Vinny Appice.

March 25: Sober Up. Play something to recover from a hangover.

Nicole Atkins - Goodnight Rhonda Lee

I don't remember the story exactly, but I know this album was written while Nicole was recovering from alcoholism and Rhonda Lee was her alcoholic alter ego and this album was saying goodbye to that side of her (or something along those lines). Seems like it helped Nicole sober up, so it should help you as well!

I don't know if this is really good for a hangover or not...

If I had that sophisticated cocktail yesterday (I'm getting old... wednesday partying is rare nowadays), I'd be listening to something smooth to soothe the soul today. Like this...

March 23: Greatest hits/comp

Iron & Wine - Archive Series No. 1

Not really a greatest hits guy, and I have none on vinyl. So I'll play this collection of 16 early Iron & Wine songs, written and recorded in the same pre-label and -album days that Sub Pop took a batch from to make up his first album as well as disc 1 of his first comp, 2009's Around the Well. There are still several dozen tracks from this era officially unreleased (easy to find online, though), which is pretty wild.
