Day 13: An album that feels conversational
So I took this as an album where the band/artist is almost communicating a direct personal message to the listener.. cutting thru the past and telling you where they are at now.
So personally there is no better album for myth busting than this ...
John Lennon “Plastic Ono Band” 1970
The lyrics to this are brutal, searing , tender and angry , resigned , and ultimately weary ...John was telling us the Beatles were no more , and were never those
Moptops ... it’s a brilliant album , and the production absolutely nails the music to the lyrics , stark and simple , no bullshit here people ..and remember this was 1970’s Britain ..we didn’t and don’t talk feelings much us brits , so this was a therapy bomb on record ..no stiff upper lip here ..”My Mummy’s Dead...”
“hold on John, it’s gonna be alright....” and it was ....
All three Beatles solo debuts are possibly their best work (sorry Ringo) , Paul goes lofi, George does the kitchen sink and John torpedoes the Beatles myth.
Essential listening in my book
