Day 15: An album that makes you laugh

So having misjudged the room yesterday and being confronted by all your posts of filth and profanities...I thought I’d combine something that makes me laugh and also could be a response to yesterday’s “im(mature) filth fest”

The Beastie Boys ”Licensed to Ill” 1986 U.K. original

Any album that samples Led Zep and Sabbath on the same opening track and then disses Jimmy Page on the next before sampling Zep again deserves respect ..and these rhymes are timeless etc

Fight for your rights...

This was almost my pick. I just like all the White Castle references on the album. There are 3, I believe. In case you were wondering.

Scratch that.....I think there's 4.

white castle fries only come in one size.....

and I can always make em smile, from white castle to the nile.....

went to white castle and we got kicked out.....

Got ladies of the 80's from here to White Castle....

And here I go posting an even filthier and way more immature album on laugh day.

Day 15: An album that makes you laugh
Father John Misty - God’s Favorite Customer
212736A6-D71A-4B5F-A8FE-ADAB0F02ADB8.jpeg

This one works on two levels first being the lyrics of many FJM songs are genuinely hilarious and still make for a nice laugh even after knowing the punchlines by heart. The second is a bit more meta; The distain directed at Mr. Tillman’s FJM persona from certain folks (@Colonel_Angus and @Joe Mac in particular) is always worth a goodhearted chuckle also.

You missed @Teeeee she’s the leader of the FJPP resistance movement!

Day 15: An Album That Makes You Laugh

Open Mike Eagle ‎– Dark Comedy (Mello Music Group, 2016 Green/Yellow Transparent Pressing)

I was struggling to think what to choose today then I remembered this one. I saw Open Mike live in 2018 and he signed this copy for me. Throughout the show he was CONSTANTLY making the audience laugh with anecdotes and in his lyrics. It was a superb show and I'm glad I thought about this record today as its brought back some fantastic memories. The record is full of humorous lyrics and even feature Hannibal Buress on one of the tracks.

Day 13 (Catch Up) - Conversational album
Jeff Bridges - Sleeping Tapes
This is a weird one. It was a record that Squarespace put out by Jeff Bridges. There's one track on it that's just Jeff saying really nice, positive compliments. The whole album is mesmerizing IMO. I was going through a really rough patch at work when it came out and would listen to it at night when I couldn't sleep and it helped calm me down and get some rest.

The vinyl isn't for sale anymore but you can download it still at the website I think:

Day 14 (almost caught up!): Rated M for Mature
Cody ChesnuTT - The Headphone Masterpiece

I absolutely love this album. A few dirty tracks on this one (never knew what The Seed was about when the Roots made it famous...) Bitch, I'm Broke is also a pretty hilarious track though.

Day 15: An Album That Makes You Laugh
Thundercat - It is What it is

This one just arrived the other day from Rough Trade. Saw someone else posted Drunk and so I'll follow in their footsteps and post this one. Dragonball Durag's lyrics make me laugh every time I listen to it.

Day 15: an album that makes you laugh

Built to Spill - There's Nothing Wrong With Love

Like some of the other big indie rock bands of the era (like Modest Mouse and Pavement), BTS can have some really funny lyrics at times. One of my favorite gems from this album is:

"My stepfather looks just like David Bowie / but he hates David Bowie / I think Bowie's cool / I think Lodger rules / My stepdad's a fool"

But the real laugh-out-loud gem is the hidden bonus track, "Preview," where you get to hear snippets of the next Built to Spill album. It's like one of those "Next time, on Arrested Development" stingers, where nothing in it actually happens in the next episode. It's two minutes of pure hilarity:
