Day 3: Jazz Sunday

Grupo Irakere - S/T
Areito, 1974 (Cuban band on a label from Cuba)

My jazz go-to is really an album by Guru but I'll leave that for someone else to share.

I'm not into traditional Dead Guy Jazz, but this is Latin Jazz; it's got life and it's got happiness and it makes you move your hips, not just tap your toes. It reminds me of the sounds of growing up in the Bronx.

Day 3: Jazz Sunday

Lee Morgan ‎– City Lights (Blue Note, 1957 First Mono Pressing)

I was halfway through Blue Train but have just seen that @Gavaxeman has already posted, so I will go with my latest big jazz pick up. Lee Morgan has built into a favourite musician of mine. I find his sound to be totally infectious and he continuously seemed to push himself with each release. I honestly think he died before he had a chance to release his greatest music, much in the same way that Coltrane was addicted but released some of his best work after becoming clean. City Lights is one that I never thought I would be able to find, a real rarity that seems to be very allusive. Its a hard-bop masterpiece with some killer compositions from Benny Golson. Morgan was just 19 at the time of recording but already commanded the attention of the room like a pro.
